Older,The Wiser

While the process of ageing is feared by most human beings, one often undermines the truth that the older generations of people are the more wiser than their young counterparts. The experiences both joyful and bitter ones gained by the elders make them equip themselves to withstand all sorts of troubles which are likely to be encountered with the passage of time. In most troubled situations the good advice of the elderly lot comes to our rescue. Only age could bring in such mature thinking and capability to face the grim realities of life.

Finally! someone agrees with me. I'm 65 years old and that's ancient to some people and there are those who feel they don't have to respect me but do they know what I have gone through and experienced in my life? NO they don't. It's true older is wiser! Thanks for this discussion!

I do respect the elders with full of wisdom. I never had a doubt to have advise with them. I am still young but I still have to learn more about life.

Sometimes age doesn't bring wisdom. My daughter is 22 and amazingly wise. I am sometimes surprised at it myself. However I do think that getting older gives you a certain advantage because the kids now they think they know it all and we can catch them because we've already tried it. It also brings a certain sense of peace.

You have pointed a very real fact of life. every has to pass through this phase of the life. But all wish to be young. To accept old age is very difficult.

An African woman I knew told me that her aged mother in Ghana was very respected in her community as were all the older people. She was upset to see how some Europeans regarded old people. I can't see how old people can win with the younger generation any more. They live in a time when image is everything and old people's images do not improve with the years. They mistake education (which the older generation pay for often at great personal cost)for intelligence so they do not need to ask older people for an opinion especially when they are ignorant of computers, or barely competent with them. The African concept of an elder is lost, now we are just pensioners and past it. It is good to read sukumar that you appreciate your 'elders' in the time honoured fashion. I am sure you are already wiser and more mature than many of your peers.

One of the best thing to ask about life is the elders. I used to have precious time with my grandma, she never fails to give her wisdom of thought. I am still young and long way to go, taking the steps towards the great wisdom will surely be imparted with the younger generations in the future.

Old is gold. The more you live, the more you learn. That is why we are taught to respect the old.The old can know what the young feels, coz they have gone through that phase.Love, respect and learn from the old.

Hello sukumar. Thanks for the discussion in the first place. I agree that the older we are, the wiser we become because we have experienced so much in our life, good or bad, smooth or unsmooth. All of what we have experienced teaches us a lot and makes us wiser and more experienced that we can always teach our young generations. Our past experience is something valuable that the experience with age offers us. Have a good day.

I am happier after reaching fifties. :) There is less of future to plan for, to struggle for, and there is in general a more relaxed outlook towards life because I have struggled through the early part of life. I dont know if I am older, and therefore, wiser..lol. All I know is, we have certain goals for our retirement. And we are in rush for reaching them, as if there is no tomorrow. Once we do seem to be on path, and making reasonable progress, everything seems to fall in its place.
