It's been 2 years since we got our female pitbull but my sister wanted a labrador and was looking for a pup around our area. Unfortunately the most popular breed I could think of is not that common in our province. Anyway the vet that was taking care of my male pitbull was endorsing a female pitbull to us like it was a commodity and was blabbing about how we can breed because we already have a male. The point there was that he is a good salesman and we we're blinded of his real intentions. When he brought the puppy to us we didn't know how to react because she was thin and didn't look like a healthy puppy but she was a puppy, a very curious and excited puppy. The vet missed out on telling us the whole truth about the puppy's background and now I know why. I know as an owner we are the one who is responsible for all that but hey that guy is a Vet for heaven's sake and I guess not everyone is honest and true to their profession. Later on he spilled the truth because one day my sister saw a sickly pitbull at the vet's clinic and it was the sibling of our puppy. He said talked about the litter's condition where he got them from and that not all of them survived. Now how are we to know the truth if none of them survived aside from the one we got. Going back, he said that pitbull's are has sensitive skin... no way like I didn't know that from our male pitbull, duh? Well despite all that we did our best to provide for our dogs. She was fine for the first year she's been with us but for the next until now her skin condition has gotten worse and we don't know what to do. Going back and forth to that vet getting medications and spending for what we think was best for. We didn't want to go to another vet simply because we want him to see the difference we're trying to make for this dog's life. Once my sister asked him again on what we can so aside from medications and he said that's the way pitbulls are, it's a lifetime maintenance. NOW THAT IS HIS HIDDEN AGENDA FROM THE VERY BEGINNING! Maintenance for HIS source of income huh? Now we are very bothered because we are at the point of thinking euthanasia so as to not prolong her agony. We love her so much and we've been trying to fix her. She is as curious and as energetic as she has always been but it's totally different from her physical appearance. We don't know what's going on inside her and we are very upset at the vet who is supposed to be a protector of dogs. I'd say he's inhumane. He better find a solution for this because he's the one giving us an unhealthy dog!

I don't blame you for being mad at your Vet. It was wrong what he did and you should complain to someone about it. Maybe the ASPCA or other animal shelters. He shouldn't get away with this and I'm so sorry this happeneed to you AND the poor puppy. I hope things work out for you both.

As much as I would want to report him I can't because I know he'll just deny doing anything wrong. We don't have a solid evidence since the pitbull was fine with us during the first year. He could rebut that we weren't forced to get the dog or maybe he wanted to save that puppy (but still make money out of it). My sister already emailed him showing her disgust and he didn't reply. I guess he get the point that he's busted and can't fool us anymore.

You are talking about a skin condition. What type of condition are you referring to? There are several things that can cause a dog to lose hair if that's the problem. Demodectic Mange or red mange can cause serious problems with a dog. All dogs are prone to this and all carry the demodectic mite, but most only come down with it when they immune system goes down due to an illness. Everybody thinks it is inherited because it is in the bloodstream. That's not true, it's passed on to the pups from the mother while they are nursing. The inherited part comes in because they inherit the immune deficiency from the parent. It can be cured, one thing that will help is called prolate ( a cattle dip used to treat another skin problem called sarcoptic mange), ivomec for cattle will also help kill demodectic mange mites. If you have your dog on the heartworm preventive that contains ivomec the condition should gradually improve. Ringworm is another condition, also an enzyme deficiency or hormone imbalance. If you want to know more about demodectic mange go to www.beaglesunlimited.com. If I knew more about the condition I could probably tell you more about how to treat it. Some vets are out for how much money they can make, they want you to keep coming back so they can get more money. I hope you the best with the dog, but I wouldn't euthanize. I've raised pitbulls all my life and I have never had this problem. Good luck.
