Congratulations on deciding to write! Take your time and write. I do not have the funds to publish and had to use different editors to correct and modify my story. It was hard work... very hard work. I am doing self-publishing and I am in no rush. I talk about my book, took a few to the library and will see someone later this week on how to get an ebook out. I have sold about 70 already, but know that I will have to explore more. If you have the funds, get a publisher, but investigate their reputation first, ok. My friend's friend paid hundreds of dollars for a publisher and up till now, have only managed to sell four books... Marketing is hard work, but we should just persevere!

Wow..! I am so glad to have a response from an experienced person like you. Thanks for sharing your idea. I've read in one of your discussions that you've just finished your book writing and got published. Congratulations! May your book gets best seller listed. When we have proposed our book to the publisher, is there a possibility to be rejected? What are exactly the role of the publisher?

I have published two books. I used a website www.lulu.com. They are a self-publishing company. You keep all rights to your book. You only have to pay a small fee for the bar code that goes on the back cover. It was only $35 back in 2005 when I published my books. There is no minimum order, so you don't get stuck with boxes of books. It is a print on demand system. When someone orders your book, they print it and ship it. You have many choices, paperback or hard cover, and choice of paper stock, and binding type. But your book gets listed in the National Catalog that is used by major book stores to choose their inventory. The only downside is that you are responsible for your own marketing. But your book is available for sale in all the big book stores because you have the bar code. You can submit your book manually to the major bookstores.

Thanks a lot for your meaningful response. I only know that I need to have the bar code on my book. But, I still no sure about where to get it, and is it about patent?

Hmm, I'm not really sure but I had talked to a friend about how she got to publish her manga with a few copies only for trial if her "style" would appeal to readers. But I caution you to have your work a copyright for legal reasons. First you have to find a publisher for your book. I don't know much to where you'd find one at your place but if you live in my country, Philippines, if you're at manila you could find publishers at Recto. When you find a publisher, you can ask them about your publishing options, like size/quality of paper and binding. If your field of expertise already has local textbooks/novels you can look in to these books for any publishers that may be near your location. If you want to have a sample first, bookbinding services can help. Here in my country there are several "Photocopy" shops that also do book binds (both soft & hard bound). So you can print your book (either at home or at a Computer Printing Services/Shop) then have it bounded. Having a sample can be useful since you can show it to a publisher for reference(and if you'd like to add particular details to your work), along with a cd/thumbdrive containing your soft copy of your book. Hope this helps .

You mean, you are toying with the idea of writing a technical book offline? If so,then it is a good idea.I have got many of my articles written in my mother tongue,Hindi, published in reputed newspapers and magazines, but I have never tried to get any book published.Still I know where to begin from.I am telling you what I know. First of all,you must be aware of the fact that publishers are businessmen. They give importance to their profit. They would try to judge whether the book they would publish would bring them profit. So first find out a publisher who is ready to publish your book.Discuss how much commission or royalty they are going to give you. Then give them a typed or hand written or typed copy of your book. This is the first step. The publisher would read it and publish it.All other steps include discussing how the cover of your book would be etc etc.And all this takes time.
