Where do you feel more inspired to write?

Do you have a place where you go, when you want to write something? A place like a park or a cafe? Or do you prefer to do it home? I find a lot of trouble in writing home, sometimes even a small thing. I get easily distracted by all kind of things. When I am home alone it's kind of easier, but usually I am not and I can't put myself into the mood. So I always go out, some years before with paper and pen, now with my laptop and go to the library (we have a nice, big national library where you can also drink coffee while you stay at the desk, which I find great) or to a cafe. But with cafes things are more complicated, because it has to be a certain atmosphere (not too much people, nice music, to feel that you can stay a lot of time there). Now I barely find this kind of place, and in the evenings it's harder because there are usually more people. I had some favorites that closed because they run out of clients. So, I'm in the process now of finding the perfect one. Do you have habits like this while comes to writing? Do you think they are part from your personality or do you try to overcome them (because you want to be able to write anytime, anywhere)?

I live in the countryside and I have a tree near my house. Everytime I want to write something I go there and I write under the tree, I found it very confortable, and I'm not capable of doing the same at my home.

I think you found a trigger for your inspiration with that tree which is great. Nature and having your own comfortable private space work good together for writing.

I do write. I write for books, newsprint etc. You have rightly said that writing needs mood and atmosphere. Till date my best writing places are during my train journey. Otherwise I do write in late night. But I think the best place for writing would inside jail. There you can not do anything for outside world except writing. So, I guess, if i will be in jail in future for some good time, definitely i shall come out with a thick manuscript. njoy!

:)) I was also thinking at this advantage of being in jail when I saw how they look inside (with library, park, church, all kind of modern utilities). But jail it's not actually bad because of the lack of freedom, but because of the poeple there. You wouldn't have time for writing, with all those bad people there that maybe will interfere in your life more than you want. Oh, and I can't believe I forgot mentioning it from the first. Train journeys are also one of my favorites. I use the train regularly and the roud is about 10 hours. I do so many things those 10 hours... And it's really enjoyable. Good luck with your writing!

hi, thnx for being my friend. In fact i was in jail for around a month, when i was doing my engineering. From my own experience, I am sure that each and everything inside a central jail is much more disciplined than outside world. Its normally pin drop silent, no garbage etc. It is cleaned daily regularly and with little un-necessary interference there are wardens, who controls the situation very brutally. lol ... I m advocating a lot for jail, just to tell you that its the best place for creative works. You can find many freedom fighters, leaders etc. has compiled their written books, particularly when they were inside bar. So, when are you planning to visit this beautiful world!!!!!

i have yet to find a place where i can source my inspiration and bring out the creative and interesting ideas out of me. for now, i write in my room. what i like about it is the privacy and control of time that i have. i also like to be on my own when i write. when i become unproductive and tired, i take a walk outside or go shopping for my needs. when i return, i have some ideas to continue my writing.

I guess it also depends on how your room and house looks like. If it is decorated by your own taste, it can be more inspiring. Good luck with your writing! :)

Hello Spiciymary, I hope that you are fine. I used to write some poems when I was young and single. Now I`m plain of duties, a house, a husband, children and job. I used to get inspired in cafes, and I loved to visit the airport cafes. Thanks you for your post. Blessings Spicymary... dainy

I manage to work even if there is noise. But I prefer to be quiet and alone, and try to set up that environment whenevr possible. I am a bit of a loner and so writing is a great job for me. I used to play some soft, instrumental music and write atthe same time. But I do not do that very often. At times I feel I am more in the mood of writing and I feel an urge to write more than ever. I wish these instances come daily as i really get productive during such periods!

Good luck with your writing. :) Well... inspiration is a great challenge for writers, it doesn't come all the time. And there are times when you feel like writing and having something to say, but you just don't find the proper words. We just hope to be how fewer it's possible...

Like your other responders, I write anywhere, and anytime as long as i don't have work and when I am idle. I just need pen and paper or laptop. However I noticed that I can not write when I am listening to radio ( I listen to online streaming for news back home). I can not concentrate, if "talk", but if I listen to music I have no problem at all.

yes, I can not understand. maybe if I listen to "talk" I would be so engrossed to what the announcer or reporter is saying that's why I can not concentrate. While when I am listening I can even sing along with it. LOL

Well, that's great! You save all the time for preparations and use it for your writing. Listening to others talk can be really disturbing, indeed.

Where do I go? I wait until everyone is asleep at night and I have the entire house to myself. Then it is quiet and I can concentrate. I have no need to go out to the cold car and drive to the library. Especially in this season of flu stronger than the last few years. I don't want to be around alot of people unless I have to be.

I see it's not your case, but cold weather can so much change the habits of somebody. I can't wait the next season, it's almost depressing not to be able to walk, or read in the park, and being horrible only to get out of the house. I face it everyday, because I can't stay home too long, but it's really annoying.

home is where the heart is and that is usually where my writing inspiration is born. sometimes i just need those peaceful corners of my home to keep believing in myself and the words i choose to write.

good day spicymary, for me here, i do loved to take down all of my ideas in writing inside my room. though this is not a perfect place for me to think what topic to discuss. as new ideas arise whenever i am inside a toilet or bathroom. though i can't explain why but it is really happening to me. and after i have went to that area, i need to sit down to write the idea, at least to have the pointers so as not to loose it. and if i got the chance to type it then i will do it immediately so i can expound and make it published.

It also happens with me. I find long baths really inspiring and also the best place where I can think and order my ideas. My boyfriend is using the toilet for the same purpose. I guess it's something with the bathroom in general. :P

Hello spicymary. You must be a great writer because the way your environment affects you is the way it affects your writing. J.K Rowling, the writer of Harry Potter, had some problems that distracted her as well and her environment is the one that helped her finish her masterpiece. Settings such as the forest, with a great sunlight effect of course and not too many people can enhance your creativity and help you in your writing. Well, for me, i also write sometimes but i'm not writing a novel or whatsoever but when i don't feel like writing or drawing, i go to a place where i can see many green colors. They actually stimulate my brain to be in the mood and start whatever i have to do. But before i do anything, i listen for a simple piano music and imagine a little bit until i feel inspired. Then, it works out well and i have made an idea on what to draw or to write. I believe you can find your own castle of solitude, we just need to find it in ourselves. Colors could actually make a difference. He he he. Have a great day!

Hello, halfbloodace! :) Colors and music can, for sure, improve your writing mood. I used to go in cafe, where a man was playing the piano and singing, and it always inspired me. There were not many people, and the atmosphere was relaxed. You could ignore him, or get lost in his music. I don't think I could easily write in a forest, maybe just sometimes. I usually need to see people around, but unknown people that will not interfere.

I can write anywhere as long as I have my laptop or a paper with me. Sometimes, even I am attending meeting, I still write and would just have to encode it when I have my laptop with me at a later time. I also write even at waiting areas, in the morning or before going to the bed at night.

You are lucky that you can focus so well. I also lost the habit of writing on paper, so not having my laptop will be a great problem. What do you write? :)

At home when I am alone and the air completely still. Especially at night when everyone is asleep. I sometimes like to write also when i am in the office during the day and I am alone in the office. I always carry a pen and paper in my bag as well. The library for me here is a bit too noisy. I love to write about love and sad things that happens here. I write about things that have both negative and positive impact on my life as well.

I really love to composed a song. but something bothering me .. the NOISE around me .. and then when i go to peaceful place . i can write well but if there is a bit noise i cant concentrate. and then i will stopped to write and go home.. and then it tooks a months for me to finish it...

I don't have musical ear, so it's difficult for me to understand how a song it's composed. But I guess you should concentrate on the sounds that you imagine, and how they go together, so the outside noise will distract you easier. I guess it's more difficult than being a writer or a painter.

writing is one of my favorite things to do whenever i have time, i think this is a good way for me to think about the people, the memory and try to direct myself in a new way. I love to think and sometimes want to write down but it needs the right place, the right mood, the right atmosphere,so that i can let my heart open and write what's in my mind, may be in this way i am a sensitive girl, what do you think?
• Romania

Writing it's an extraordinary way to let down to thoughts that are flying in your head. I feel like I didn't waste all the time just with daydreaming, but I actually did something. Maybe it's a way to justify laziness (just my case). It can be a way for you to benefit from your sensitiviness, to share with your paper what's on your mind. Well, writing has a lot of causes and advatages.

I have my laptop in the living room right next to my piano and I like to write there because well the big TV in the living room is not working and I do not have that good hand writing due to a wrist injury. Also I have the window outside that I can sometimes see things, but the reason is that well I can also get up and walk around and the laptop is always there.

I'm inspired to write when I finish reading a book or watching a movie or playing a game. I'm also motivated by earning some extra spending money.

When I was still actively doing blogs for companies, I always wanted to have my peace and quiet. There is no necessary place for me to grasp my ideas. I just want nobody to be speaking to me and give me atleast an hour of peace.

I just write down whatever i feel on my mobile in the notes section. Usually i take less time to jot down a poem or something like that but if it needs more thinking, i might take even days. Lol. I don't particularly have habits while writing though or might be i am not aware of the one i have..haha..
