Women with military experience should decide about women in combat

I heard a discussion of both sides of this issue from 2 women in the military. IMO theirs are the most credible voices on this issue. I can't understand why women would want to go into combat, but it isn't for me to decide. The input from women who have 'been there done that' should take priority over anyone else givng their mere "opinion"...but that's just my opinin

I was watching a television short that showed how the military go to a battle ground in trucks for hours at a time, having bottles to relieve themselves, no time or place to wash, in intense heat, or cold, etc. At least in the olden days, men matched and could go into the woods or take a bath in a stream, but not now. No woman would put up with that. Women who have been in combat know what it is like. They know about the danger of rape from enemy combatants who regard women as second class citizens and female prisoners as property. Unfortunately Obama does not know that or prefers not to know.

suspenseful I hear you..and I don't understand why women would want to put themselves in these positions..and that is also why I think hearing from women who truly undersand the conditions is so important.. Sounds disgusting to me... no way would I want to be there...

I think if a woman is in marines, they are trained to fight just like a man is. or at least they should be. Right??

mariaperalta Right except I understand the standards for women physically are different since they don't have the same body strength..that seems a disadvantage in the field when there are wounded who need to be carried off...

Hi stary, I saw your discussion and could not agree more. I think war is terrible. I also agree that only women with military experience should make any kind of decision regarding women going into combat.

MandaLee War is terrible, but many will argue it is a necessary evil. Too bad the entire world can't agree war is terrible and to be avoided at all costs.. I think back in history when they used swords not gusn..the brutality is mind boggling...

Yes, its totally up to the female military person. I would never want to be in military on the front lines, that is just me. There are many females who are in the military and I'm guessing would love to be in the frontline or not. So its their decision and shouldn't be anyone elses. I think if this is what they really want go for it. If its not what they want then they can say no to it.

lelin1123 I also wonder how it affects the men. Most men have been taught to protect women and look out for them..while they do watch out for other men, I wonder if they feel women are more vulnerable and need extra protecting...do they look upon the women like their sisters and mothers..and would that cause them to be less cautious than normal??

eagletrek2 I just found out that combat is higher pay and faster promotions..that does make sense. I defer to women in the military on this..lol but there are opposing views so that can't be the final decision either I guess.
