I've been having this problem for a while now where I cannot install games or software. Every time I try to install a game like need for speed or batman akharm city from their original discs I get a corrupt file error. At first I thought it was the operating system's fault then I made my pc multiboot so I could run window vista and Xp at the same time but it still didn't work. It's giving me problems when I try to install any version of microsoft office(2003,2007,2010) and I'm told there are files missing on a original disc but when I install it on my friends older computer there's no problems. My computer has a pentim d cpu, 2gb of ram and an nvidia 630 card. It's a 32bit/86x computer.

This might be a long shot but I think there is a possibility something is wrong with your installer. Wait scrap that, because once you installed a new OS, you should have gotten a new installer and if it is not installing on the new os as well then only thing I see that might be possibly, is you have a hardware problem or a very intelligent virus.

Could you tell me which hardware part could cause this kind of problem. Is it the cpu? If so, then how?

You say you are installing from the original CD. Have you checked your CD/DVD-ROM drive? The lens might have been wear out or dirty.

Probably there is a problem with the disc itself, try contacting the personnel over the game installer where you had purchased it and ask for assistance in terms of the game’s setting and how to make it compatible to your operating system.

It's not the disc because I was talking about more than one. I have had this problem with office 2003, 2007 and 2010, the games that gave me problems were fifa08, devil may cry 4, need for speed (carbon and prostreet) and I have replaced windows many times with different versions.

Sounds like it might be a corrupted registry key. Have you tried running a registry cleaner or diagnostic utility? From Microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall/

Hi, I suspect a bad HDD, sorry if I am too direct but I have this problem a while ago where I can't install anything on a newly-formatted hard disk and it took me a long time to realize that some sectors on the hard disk are being used as temporary repository for the installation files and when it gets on a bad block, it returns an error or "unable to find the specified file" or something of that sort of message. Try swapping to a new HDD if you can and see if the same problem occur. Of course, it involve having to have a new OS which takes time to install.

Maybe there is dangerous harmfull virus in your computer that is not easy to find by your antivirus ... I'll suggest you to instal your new OS than do not open any drive diractly just instal Avast latest antivirus and scan your all the drives else C or where your you instaled the OS.. I hope your problem will be solved...
