now that is not surprising at all anymore - this is because almost every child i see nowadays have got a gadget on their hands. whatever happened to playing on the streets with our playmates? i bet most of this kids no longer know how to play the ever kids game like piko, dampa, tumbang preso, langit lupa, and so on.

You bet it is the effect of technology. kids should still try tto play out sometimes, they hardly get under the sun anymore. he he =) my nephew would even get mad when you take away an ipad he was holding! and he knew where to press the game he wants.. and he is only 2 years old!

the movie, oversize me, has already captured the situation and phenomenon of obesity. the food we eat and the fashionable activities (video gaming) are all likely to lead to obesity because of less nutritious and fatty foods and less physical activities for children. the schools and parents should introduce their own list of activities where they require children to burn those fats such as exercise and out-door activities.

I agree mensab, that these games online or on their cellphones don't let them have the physical activity thus what they intake isn't maximized but stored as fats consequently making them obese. Of course in addition are the fast foods, they like to eat, specially burgers, fries and fried chicken - all laden with fat. I think, parents should start disciplining them in the foods they eat at an early age.

could you share what site that is. i am interested in helping fight childhood obesity along with provide insight to others about good nutrition habits, but it is hard for poor families to have the concept of eating healthily while there is no food in the house, and to eat what is available or go hungry. i am interested in the show called biggest loser which airs in america. i am not sure where else it airs. thank you for sharing that large number with us. do you have any other statistics?

I guess this is one of the reality now. It is because of their lifestyles too. When I was a kid, most of our games played required physical or body involvement unlike now most are being played in the computer and gadgets. Furthermore, many foods nowadays can cause obesity are being given to kids. I think, parents have a vital role in preventing this incidents to their kids. Just like when our son is below 1 year-old, he really weighs higher than the normal weight of a kid on that age, however, when he learned to walk, we let him walk around the village as form of exercise. We also refrain him from watching Tv frequently and engage him to more physical acitivyt like dancing and running.

on the other hand majority of our children are underweight and malnourished. we have more children with hunger problems than children with overweight problems but both problems are disturbing and the government should be concern about it as both situation are not healthy. The government should have feeding programs for the malnourished children while they must have free fitness programs for overweight children.

I agree with CAW that majority is underweight but is not being obese also a form of malnutrition?, cause just the same they do not eat the right food. I'm not sure but I would assume that majority of obese children come from the more affluent families cause they have access to more food although not necessarily healthy and poorer families children sometimes skip meals. Just thinking again, am i right to assume what i just mentioned and sometimes i wonder which is worse, anyway I'm just voicing out what's inside my mind

Parents really find their little children cute when they are fat. Most parents also have the mind-setting that a fat boy/girl is healthy. This misconception is really a burden to their children for when they grow up, coping up with their weight would really be difficult.
