Sometimes I switch off all the lights and other electrical appliances to save money on electricity bills. What are the things you do to budget your monthly expenses?

I have level pay on my electric bill. It is merely an averaging of the six months of use and we pay that. We are also trying to teach my grandson to turn off the lights when he is done in one of the rooms. He is very good at leaving them all on.

I also think it is very good to save money on the electricity bills. I think when we turn off the lights we will be able to save some money on the electricity bills. I will also try to follow this.

And even though we are on Level Pay I think it is a good practice and habit to get into.

I do feel that there are loads of electrical products, that we all leave on, also there are other things that we leave on standby that also use electic. I am like you going around and turning all the lights off, also I am a person that also turns off as well as unplugs things like the microwave in the hope that people will at least remember to turn it off after they have used it. My children are really bad for leaving things on like lights and tvs in their room while they are out, that gets on my nerves, as they were able to turn the things on, yet not able to turn them off.

I think if we are careful we can save a lot of money on the electricity bills.

I keep everything switched off unless I am using it. By that I mean switched off at the power point, not just the appliance. I switch lights off I'm not using, I use the new light globes that are supposed to use less energy, I only shop once every 2-3 weeks, I rarely use the phone and then only when necessary. I have salads and sandwiches mainly in summer so I'm not cooking, I switch off the hot water every few weeks in the summer and let the sun warm my water. I'm about to have solar panels fitted and they will pay for themselves in just over 6 years my electricity will be approximately half the amount it is now. I drive carefully, not too fast and I check my tyres regularly as this ensures I am getting great fuel consumption. I also keep my car clean as this prevents drag from accumulated road grime. I rarely eat out and usually only if someone else is paying. I also grow some of my own fruit and veggies...not much but every little bit helps. There are so many things we can do to save money.

I also think that it is good to switch off all the things when we do not need them. I think if we eat from home we can certainly save a lot of money that we give to different hotels.

to save some money, i do bike from home to work. i also pack my lunch so that i do not have to buy an expensive lunch meal from the cafeteria. i look for discounts in the things i purchase in the supermarket and department store. aside from saving, i also try to earn extra money from other sources such as mylot and blogging. in this way, i am building my savings in the future.

This phase of my life is behind me...I mean, I am not rich, but not so badly off that I need to deny myself somethings. Nevertheless, I do plan so that I dont find myself on wrong foot. I dont use my cell as much. Nor land line. I opt for emailing. As to transport...which I think is one thing that we Indians need to cut down a lot on, I walk a lot. Cover most of my works in walking distance by walk rather than taking any vehicle. I also plan any outings meticulously so that I can combine two or more things at one go so that I am not going out everyday. It spares me ironing expenses, as well as transport charges. My monthly groceries, I do it once in a month. This helps to keep track of how much is needed and how much is expended, and which things are becoming more expensive.

I am also not rich and I am also from India. I also think it is good to go for walking for shorter distances than going on vehicles to nearby places. I will also try to keep a track on the expenses to know where the money goes and also where I can save money.

My monthly salary is not enough to pay my bills, as a single person and other obligation. Too bad and I really have to find other part time job. I do budget my monthly salary for my credit card bills (minimum payment), for my salary loan and for my personal basic needs like most girls needs.

I also think mostly we must learn to spend what we earn and not to spend what we do not learn. I think budgeting helps us to do better and also helps us to know how we spend money and on what things.
