On TV we watch a lot of shows that have heroes. Usually there are bad guys but they tend to be taken care of at the end of each episode. There are some shows, however, where they create a villain who is a central part of the show. One who comes to mind is Larry Hagman's J. R. Ewing. He was reprising his role in Dallas before his untimely death. Some shows like NCIS come up with villains that carry over for several shows but they eventually get killed or caught. Right now, Re John on The Mentalist is an interesting villain except that we've never seen him. Michael Chiklas' Vincent Salvino has potential to be an interesting villain, but I think Vegas is going to be cancelled. James Purefoy's Joe Carroll on The Following might be the most interesting villain. In one part he is a little like Hannibal Lector without the cannibalism and it also points out a somewhat strange phenomena where deathrow killers get followers. In some cases, women begin writing to killers in prison and fall in love them. In this case, Carroll has come up with a group of followers who become copycat killers. This show looks grat but I'm not sure if it's intended for only one year or not. What TV villains are out there that you find intriguing.

I agree with you on Carroll, he 'has his way with people' so to speak, and I just love it. I think though my favorite TV villain is Klaus from The Vampire Diaries. He's not so much a villain as someone who has had a very troubled life and is looking for a way to release his anger. His dad hated him, his mother created him, and then 1000 years later wanted to kill him. And let's not forget the siblings that resent him for stabbing them in the back, literally. Then he finds comfort and love in Caroline, and doesn't seem so bad after all.

I meant to watch this how when it started but got sidetracked. From watching other shows like Being Human, the conflict between a vampire trying to be normal and other vampires seems a natural. I have been watching the British version of Being Human, where the conflict has spilled over to one where vampires are trying to take over the world and weirwolves are trying to stop them.

It's a good show, I do recommend it. It used to be the vampires in the show would kill humans to stay alive, then they switched to blood bags, which is great, but takes away the fun of being a vampire, and watching vampires in action. And now there's apparently a cure, which I don't believe for one bit, that everyone wants to use in different ways and for different reasons.

Hawaii Five-0, both the new one and the original version, had the villain Wo Fat. He has been a continuing figure in the new version so far; not in every episode of course but he is the most trouble. He always seems to be able to escape no matter how dire a situation he is in.

I remember the original Wo Fat and while I haven't seen as much of the new one, I felt the old Wo Fat was more sinister. Another thing I don't like about the show is how they took Kono, a male character, and made it female. I know they wanted to make the show sexier but could they have given her a new name?

I don't really watch a lot of tv but I do have a few shows that I watch per week. My favorite villain on tv would be Sue Sylvester from Glee. She's so mean, witty and sarcastic. She plays mean so well that I secretly hate when she softens up and show mercy to those she hates yet I would also think it so inconsiderate of her character not to show mercy at all. Confusing I know!
