I just heard tehy reversed it, but I listened to this on the radio the last few days. To go to the US (Florida), we had to have a International Drivers Licence. It is said they were targetting the french because they couldn't read it. Well sorry but I don't speak, read, or write in french and I can figure it out. My parents and my sister go to Florida a few times a year. The first thing that came out of their mouth were we arn't going then. I suppose many raised a stink, and they reversed the law, seeing as a lot of the snow birds, adn tourism in Florida is from Canada.

Yes, mexico has that already here. If they catch you more than once with saw a us only drivers license.. you will then have 10 days here to get an international one. Have a super day there.

Even when I was in the military, there were many countries that would not accept a military license and required an international one...They are expensive...I did get one because I did not want to be limited in my travels...The one thing I did not understand was the military licensing was way more comprehensive than the international one...We had to know enough of all the major western languages to follow all traffic directions...The international one at least at that time only required spanish french and german.

Apparently, it violated some international treaty.

Huh? I've been to Florida. I've never seen French signs. They are in English. I've never heard of an international drivers license. My brother drives to Canada at least once a year for a vacation. He has a NY State drivers license. He just has to have a passport.

That's the thing, every state have their own laws. I am a holder of an international license from my home country. When I moved here, they do not recognize it. They however, can allow me to drive for 30 days using my driver's license. After that, I have to take the DMV tests and be issued the state driver's license. Otherwise, I can be cited for driving without a license.

Considering the fact that every nation has its own norms and rules for driving its almost impossible to make an international driving license anywhere in the world. These are issues on the based of driving rules implemented in ones own country and so these cants be treated as authority to be eligible to drive anywhere around the world
