Type of transportation

When I was living in Scotland I worked in a nursing home where there were a lot of international employees. My coworkers were from Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Japan and Poland. One day we were told that two new employees from Poland were going to arrive. They were friends, but they didn't travel together, because one of them wanted to fly and the other one wanted to travel by bus. One of them thought that it was more comfortable to fly so she chose that option. The other one chose to travel by bus for many hours because that was the cheapest option. In the past I have also travelled by bus for many hours, and it was not a very comfortable way to travel, but it was much cheaper than flying and my budget was limited at that time. Today I would prefer to avoid travelling by bus for more than 30 hours, but if it was the only option that I could afford I would do it again. When you decide which kind of transportation you want, what do you find important? Do you want to travel in a comfortable way or do you prefer to choose the cheapest option even if it is not that comfortable? What have you chosen in past and what would you choose today? Why?

I have not had many chances to travel due to personal reasons. Back in 2010, I went back and forth about five times from Colorado to Ohio and vice versa by Greyhound bus. If I have a choice, I would fly. Traveling by bus at the time was not too bad, but it was also not great. It can take a whole day. I travelled light and I was not too picky about where I sit. Passengers came from different walks of life. I just hope that I can sit with people that were not too noisy. Overall, I managed. I hope I can travel and go to places a lot more through any means. In the future, there is an idea that things will get faster and more convenient. What used to take 30 hours would take few hours...

I am from Europe and I once travelled from Germany to Lithuania by bus. The jorney lasted 30 hours, and it was quite uncomfortable to travel so many hours, but it was the cheapest option so we chose to travel by bus instead of flying. Like you I would prefer to fly, but I wouldn't mind travelling by bus again if that is the the only option that I can afford at that time. In the countries where there are both trains and busses I would usually choose to travel by train, because I think that is more comfortable than travelling by bus for many hours, but I am not picky, as long as I get the chance to travel I am happy

I had heard about the Greyhound busses, but I didn't know what they looked like. We want to travel around in the US one day, and my husband and I have talked about two options. We could rent a car or we could travel by bus. Our budget is limited so we would probably have to choose the cheapest option...

When I went back and forth five times, from Colorado to Ohio in 2010, I was aware that there are some passengers that took a trip from Washington state all the way to Florida. From Colorado to Ohio, it is already taken about 24 hours. Just imagine how you would waste so much time on the road. I would rather fly if I need to go to California from California. Sometimes, people love doing roadtrip. It would definitely be quite an experience if you have a crew or few people taking a trip with car and travel from state to state. In this way, people can split costs and everyone doesn't get to be lonely. For you, it depends on what you want, what you're looking for, how long you want to be around, etc. You definitely don't want to waste too much time on the road. If you have a family in town, that would be helpful since a family member can show around as well as if you also have a known friend.

I would never do the cheapest option but the best option. Time is important and I too consider that as a important factor in a life. Money can be earned if we have time. Earning is to live comfortably. So I never do the cheapest if it relates to time in anyway. In your lines if it is for 30 hours.... God I never do it that many hours. Have a nice day. Cheers.

I wish that I was able to choose the best option instead of the cheapest option, but I love travelling and if I want to travel often I can't afford to choose the best option every time. If I did that I would run out of money before I had the chance to visit all of the places that I want to visit The 30 hour bus journey was not especially comfortable and it seemed like such a long time, but I don't regret taking that trip because I got the chance to visit some beautiful and interesting places in Latvia and Lithuania, I didn't enjoy the bus journey, but I enjoyed the rest of the trip a lot.

Whenever people have to travel they first look for the cheapest way to travel, fares that fit into their budget. Nowadays with everything becoming expensive people are very choosy when they have to spend on traveling. Of course comfort is also very necessary and they certainly look for it while planning to go somewhere. However they don't mind roughing it a bit if the means are within their budget. I have not traveled very much during my lifetime and i had very little choice to select the means of travel. Only two options were there, train and bus, flying was out of the question. Train was the most comfortable and i mostly went by it. Very rarely have i used the bus.Travel in my times was not very expensive and as i did travel very little i did not mind and chose to travel comfortably.

I agree with the things you wrote about finding the fares that fit into their budget. It is neccesary to consider the different options in order to find the best option and the cheapest option. Today we have access to lots of information on the internet and it has become much easier to plan our own trips and compare the available options. When I planned our trip to Asia I used the internet to book flights, accomodation and other things, and when I get the chance to travel again I will also use the internet. Like you I think that train is the most comfortable way to travel. Long distances busses are often cheaper than the train, but it can be quite uncomfortable to travel by bus for many hours.

For me, I prefer to travel by our own car. But if the drive is going to take more than 6 hours, I would prefer to fly. Of course I would always choose the cheaper option but then there are budget fares during promo periods that we can chance upon. If the trip is something that can be scheduled like months ahead, I can just save for it so I can travel comfortably. But if it's an emergency and I really have to be there as soon as possible, then I will just don't mind the cost. As long as it will take me there the soonest that's how I will go.

I also try to find to find the cheapest option. If I plan the trip many months in advance I have plenty of time to do research and compare the different options, and it easier to find the cheapest option if I have enough time to plan the trip. If it is an emergency I would take the kind of ticket that I can get even if it is more expensive than the kind of tickets that I would usually buy. Fortunately most of my trips have been trips that I have been able to plan well in advance. My next trip will a trip within Europe and I am going to buy the tickets several months in advance. I hope that I can find some relatively cheap tickets.
