First 151 versus the newer generations?

I recently just picked up pokemon again and i have started playing pokemon. I have found that the some of the older cards like say the first edition cards do less damage then the newer ones. I made me a deck starting out with just first 151 pokemon. It had raichu pikachu and evee and jolteon. I had the first edition lt surges raichu and pikachu. then i also added the newer raichu and pika chu. the newer cards had higher hp and stronger attack damage and used less energy cards then the older cards.So i have found i like a combination of the new and old cards. What do you prefer? First 151? Newer generation? Or combo?

I never really played the Pokemon card game the school I went to people just tended to collect them and compare each others Pokemon card collections.I think I still have them somewhere.The only battling of Pokemon I really did was on the games.Personally I prefer the original 151 Pokemon but that's just for sentimental reasons.There the Pokemon I played with on Pokemon red and yellow as a kid and still do occasionally as an adult.
