Do english medium kids have and edge over regional language school kids

My best friend belongs to an oriya medium school. Both of us study in the same collage today. But he finds it difficult to understand the subjects(taught in english) being taught. While I find it much more easier. He on the other hand was the topper of his school. So my question is whether it is a good idea of parents with enough money to send their children to an regional medium schools.

I think english medium schools is better for education because english is an international language and easy medium of communication. Regional medium schools may be good and even better if they properly teach all the other languages so that children can actually 'survive' in this world.
