How GPS works?

Hi, You all might have heard or used GPS sometime. I am wondering about how GPS (global positioning system) works. While googling I found it works using satellites atomic clocks. And it requires 4 satellite but at some website I have also found it can work with 3 mobile towers. I am utterly confused.

It all depends on the device that your using both are good and it can pinpoint correctly

Hi blackrusty, As far as I read about Global Positioning System. Precision in Global Positioning System using 4 satellites is much more in comparison to one which is using three mobile towers. And if GPS with 4 satellite is good why all the "devices" are not using it. Why it is device dependent?

mobile towers are much older and i am sure will be shut down some day

I do not think so, any mobile company is thinking in such a way. If mobile towers are removed we are not able to communicate in remote area. We currently have no effective replacement of mobile towers.

concept of GPS is pretty complex to understand. it works with the use of both mobile towers and satellites. first when you turn on your mobile(or car) GPS the mobile sends the signal(i think infrared signal) to mobile tower and then the mobile tower sends the signals to satellite and then satellite catches your location and with the continuous repetition of the process your mobile GPS(or car GPS) tells your location very easily. i think that happens like that.

Hi, Why one want to repeatedly send the signal again and again ? Once a signal is received satellite can locate your present location as your movement can not be faster than speed of signal traversal.

It will works with anything as long as it can receive and send signal to your GPS device (satellite works best if you're on a place where you can see the sky in line sight, mobile towers works best if you have difficulty getting signal from the sky/satellite). And it requires multiple receiver(satellite/tower) to measure where is the exact/approx location of your GPS devices, the more receiver involved the more accurate the location will be. It uses complex algorithm for sure.

It locates your current direction speed and position using the software and satalites.

The GPS satellite transmit the data about the location and the current time. The GPS device transfer the data from cellular tower to the satellite and then from satellite the receiver receives the information about the GPS device. There are many GPS devices available in the market to track a vehicle or a person. I would like to recommend you a website where you can find gps tracker device. Visit the website
De Unpack&Track Tech past eenvoudig in je hand en is, rekening houdend met zijn 6 tot 8 weken batterijduur, ??n van de compactste GPS real time trackers op de markt.
