Since last year I`ve been teaching several children in maths as a private teacher. All of them are spending more time in Internet than to study their lessons.Their parents can`t make them study or go to bed in time. They are coming almost asleep as they have played games, chatted or something else on the computer at night.Do you think it`s common.

Children usually prefer to do anything else than study their lessons :)) It is a great challenge to motivate them to do it. Internet is difficult to avoid because there are also plenty of good information there and it is already part of studying system. Teachers send information online and recommand various contents. Movies are one of the best tool for studying in the social sciences area. Homeworks are written on the computers. Learning a language without internet is so much lose of time (like manually searching for a word in a real dictionary). So... spending time on the Internet might pe a productive thing, if the time is used in a good way. It might be the chance that studying would become something like cool.

Yes... I agree. And this is the most difficult part. A parent can't ban it at all, and nor supervising all the time. I also think facebook and games are even more dangerous in the long term than other ways of losing time while not study.

Thank you spicymary! I agree with you.I`m giving homeworks and tests to my students online. So it`s a part of the education system but they are interested in other things.

sure! Children are underdeveloped intellectually and phychologically, and are always curious about new things. The internet is full of a variety of information, especially on entertainment.Children may easily become depend on computer games. On the other hand, parents tend to spend less time playing with their children.I do think, what is the most important, children should be given proper guidance.

Thank you yuankanxue! That`s true.Parents have less time for their children and later when they understand their mistake it`s difficult to put things in order.

I think that these days it is usual for a young person to be hooked on using the Internet. Social network sites like Face Book are popular with the young folk. Most of them like to play computer games. They spend loads of time sending emails and reading replies. It is a shame most of them don't focus enough on their studies. Good luck with teaching the children in the private maths lessons.

Oh I know kids spend to much time on the PC these days. And since they can get the iPads or tablets..whatever they are...hand held size PC...they can literally take it with them everywhere. Most can't tell you how to get to their house cause they never watch where they are going, they are always playing a game while in the car not watching where they are going. They are on the online gadgets far to much in my opinion My 7th grade grand daughter is being home schooled this year...and I swear..her school book, the one the school gave her..TELLS HER to go online to a URL to get more information on this lesson and then answer questions! I swear!! I couldn't believe it when she told me but yep....there it was, right there in the book that they had to go online for this lesson. Now the teachers don't even have to teach things...the kid are told to go online for the info...but hey, lets give those teachers a raise anyway!

Hi niki! Actually, this is one of the common problems of parents nowadays. Children would prefer to spend their time in front of the computers rather than studying their lesson. Have a great day!

I have nothing against computers and games but education is very important and the children should find time for it too.

Yes , it is very common among this generation of school children and kids, for them to spend more time in Internet seem like a normal daily activity. It is up to the parent to limit their children access on Internet every day, it would be a good idea to have a rule that set a maximum hours of Internet time a child can go on Internet and can only do so after done their school works and home works, and also a curfew time at night so that they can not pay video game or go cyber-surfing after bed time. It is all up to the parent to decide what is best for the child, not us.

I was just five when my grandma taught me to add and subtract. I don't know but ten years later I have this addiction to maths. So there could be a reason why children want to get hold of gadgets and not learn. Who knows they'd be learning to code sooner or later when they grow up. There's just so many information on the internet and that attracts children to tablets and pc.

I think that is common but depends even on the way and how to set the timing of useing net to our children is really important.
