Changing your money habits might help

Going to the All Things Pet Show today, the girl I went with was telling me about how money is tight. Last month she had to get a free bag of cat food from the shelter, and will pay them back, she also got bedding from the shelter as she couldn't afford it. She spet $150 today, on random things. She was showing me her purse she bought, and new shoes. I couldn't help but think if you can't afford to feed your animals, cut back. If I am short money, I will pay the necessary things and not buy things period. She then said how she is going to buy a dog from a breeder in a few months, then her tax refund will go to put new parts on her motorcycle, atv, and something else. I just couldn't help and wonder is she one of those people who simple cant budget and just digging themselves more in a hole. If I am going paycheque to paycheque I will try to find other work, she tried everything not to find work, when we did this paper route she complained the entire time, and gave it up fast (clearly she doesn't need or want the money that badly). My brother just came over and he started whining, because my SIL wasnt getting paid overtime, but ratehr in cat food and dog food (which she would buy anyways. Saying how the food wont help they go paycheque to paycheque, yet he wont get a second job but he is finished work at 4pm, and could work another part time job. Any time and way I can make money I would be at it, I couldn't sleep at night knowing I am digging myself in a hole so deep that I wont get out, or I wont get anything like a loan. I really can't understand it.

I have a few friends who do the same thing. Buy all those high priced items, then a few days later complain there have to eat plain pasta.

That is just so stupid, Ricki. She is living way beyond her means and her animals are paying the price. I have done of that foolishness here in this house. Their one long haired dog is matted quite a lot. He needs to go to a groomer to get clipped and nails done, but he has not been vetted for a couple of years. He can't go. I don't have the budget to take care if their dog, but I thought I would buy some clippers and try to make him look like the Bermese Mountain Dog / Lab mix that he is supposed to be. He is half blind from cataracts. I want to get that dog clipped before it gets too hot. We have to soak him down when it gets hot. He doesn't like it but that thick hair is like a heavy blanket on him. It makes me mad that he doesn't get to the vet. His nails are so long. I can't pay for it. I told them the other day that they should not even have This dog because he is in pitiful shape.

Even if he can't go to the vet or groomers they can still clip his nails at home. Maybe if they have extra money they can save some of it to put towards a trip to the vet or groomers to be taken care of. Do you guys still have Rosie? I remember you used to post pictures and discussions about her and one day a few months ago I thought about her and was wondering how she was

Yes we still have Rosie. She is a living doll. I can't walk her though. She pulls real bad. This summer when it is warm I will sit outside and love on her. She is real rambunctious. She goes to the vet on time but she needs a bath and nails clipped. The brought her in the basement this winter and bathed her and kept her there all night and let her out the next day to her kennel again.

You're preaching to the choir here, honey. Too bad your friends and family won't listen.

Oh yea, I simple can't understand it. Not saying I am better or in a better potition either, but I cut back and I did buy something at the show I didn't need, but I had the extra money. I even gave myself $300 and I only spent $50 (this included lunch).

Yeah I think for a lot of people they continue to dig themselves into a hole until they hit rock bottom or some type of light comes on. For me the light came on when we had to move suddenly out of the place we were renting and we could have had a better savings because things were really tight. I'm doing better about saving and I hardly ever buy myself something unless I really need it. Even though now I feel like my savings will have to help purchase a new work van since my husband didn't get full coverage. At least I know that I'm doing better and I have the right mind set towards my money.

People like that really confuse me. I just don't understand how someone complains about money problems yet they'll go out and buy stuff they don't need rather than buying stuff they do need or saving the money. This past Christmas my uncle was laid off work because the company was closing or something. Right away he went to interviews and one place was interested in hiring him but he told them he wanted to wait and have a vacation first since he hadn't had a break in a while. I thought that was pretty dumb even if you hadn't gotten time off in a while. when you have a family to support you suck it up and take the available job. Then, the whole Christmas holiday my aunt was throwing herself a pity party and every chance she got she would say "Oh, we can't go out to eat, we have to save money" and all this other stuff. It annoyed me because 1. He could've accepted the job right away instead of waiting and risking the chance they wouldn't end up hiring him and 2. He had been out of work for barely two weeks and my aunt was complaining like it was the end of the world. Meanwhile, my uncle was looking online to buy an old vintage Porsche so he obviously wasn't too concerned about the money situation. I can't help but get annoyed when people complain about money problems when they really just cause their own problems in the first place.

Things are always tight in my house right now. We are trying to catch up from my husband having a hard time finding a job, and my daughter needing dental work. I'm currently on maternity leave and it's tough but we scrap by paycheck to paycheck, barely. I'm hoping this will be the month that I can get back on track. Jobs are hard to come by here so its tough but I couldn't imagine spending 150 on random stuff, diapers, food, and cat food are the top priorities in this house. I've even made a goal to try to start looking for ways to make extra money. For March I made $40 on Swagbucks. That will go towards Christmas shopping this year.

I think before long your friend will start to think about how to dig money out of you. What do you think? It seems you are quite prudent with your money. Why not spend some time to educate her? It will do here some good, and in the long run, she will thank you for it. Your avatar says it all, she needs an emergency treatment,.... from you.

It does really help to prioritize our needs when it comes to budgeting. Sometimes, it doesn't always matter how much we earn but how much we spend. No matter ho high our earnings might be, if we do not know how to budget, we will end up running out of fund. Have a wonderful day!

Some people are like that, they keep on complaining about money but when there is money they spend it on things unnecessary. Some people prioritize things to keep them on trend like buying brand new cellphones or other gadgets but they do not think about important things needed in their house like sufficient food.

The problem with a lot of people is that they try to get rich instead of be rich. Is there a difference? Yes, there is. Being rich is being comfortable with the money that you have. This young lady certainly needs to get acquainted with the word BUDGET. She buys her WANTS on top of her NEEDS (or her cat's needs). Most people spend more than what they can spend and then borrow money to pay off their debts. Worry no more 911Ricki. Your friend is really digging herself into a hole. It's all about the attitude about money.
