Juice - Make Your Own!

There is nothing like fresh juice from your own juicer. If you love juice, investing in a juicer and making your own is well worth it. Not to mention, the health benefits are proven and many. Even veggie juice can be yummy and there are a ton of juicing recipes on the internet to help you get started. One of my favorite mixes though is pineapple, carrot and (believe it or not) yam. Sometimes I substitute cantaloupe for pineapple - put in a little powdered ginger and lime and this is a delicious drink. Juicing is a great way to get the amount of recommended veggies you need daily in your system without eating a ton of food. For instance a whole bunch of greens might give you 10oz of juice which you can easily consume. There's a great documentary of a guy who lost a ton of weight using a juice diet and got rid of health problems he had for years. It's called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" and can be viewed over the internet. What do you think about juicing, or this video if you've seen it?

Yes, making our own juice is really good for us, easy to do & is ideal for getting heaps into one glass. I've broken so many juicers & blenders doing this though & I find they are really hard to clean properly. I'm not a big fan of sticking my food in an electric appliance smashing it to bits & radiating it. I like hand tools! It has always bothered me too that all that pulp just gets thrown away & I'm thinking there's a lot of nutrients there just getting wasted that I paid for.

Yes, I should use that $250 deluxe dehydrator for something other than a paperweight that needs dusting! Happy experimenting!

I haven't seen that video - I may take a look at it sometime. I actually like home-made juices, but I don't have a professional juicer yet, just an old school manual one, so I can only make proper-amount juices of lemons, limes, grapefruits and oranges - like citruses. I wanna get a juicer to be able to juice apples and red berries and pears, too, and make wonderful juice mixes with it!

Perhaps you could try on green apple with carrots juice. It taste good and with less sugar compared to red apple. If you could get beets, you may add to it. It makes even more healthier juice. Not only can this boost one's immunity but also good to keep cancer cells at bay.

Doroffee, yes, definitely check out the video. I thought it was pretty amazing. If I knew how to link (or even if that's possible/allowed here) I would have put a link in my post. I liked the juicer the guy used in the video and got it. It's the compact model by Breville. It runs around $100 retail but I got a practically new one off Craigslist for $50! And I love it. Easy to use, easy cleanup. The Jack Lalanne juicer is one many people are familiar with. However, I started with one of these and it sucks!! Check out reviews for it and you'll see. I hope you do get a juicer and enjoy juicing as much as I have. Fruit juices are wonderful but don't shy away from the veggies. There are lots of recipes on the web to help you with combinations. This morning I had a cabbage/beet concoction. As ALPHA9180 states, beets do make your juice healthier and they also add a little sweetness to make veggie juice more palatable for newbies. Happy juicing!

I have many electrical appliance concerning about cooking. I have a juicer at home and I think it is better. Since the home-made juice is much more reliable and natural. It is better than the bottle juice which are sold in the supermarkets. Especially most children like drinking the juice.

Yes, definitely, natural juice is so much better than the store bought brands. Even when it say's 100% juice, if you read the label it's full of sugar usually at least 26g or more. Thanks for your comment, Youless.

After visiting a friend for a weekend and tasting some of the juices he made, I knew I wanted a juicer. A friend of mine had just gotten a new juicer and I offered to buy her old one. She gave it to me and I love it. My favorite is celery, carrots and tomatoes mixed.

Yeah, that's a good one. One of my favorites (mentioned above) is a cantaloupe, carrots and sweet potato mixture. Because of the yam it's frothy and ends of with a thickness sort of like a smoothie. Spice it up with a little lime and ginger (use powdered or make ginger water by adding slithers of ginger with water and blending. Good stuff.

Yes! I'm so glad that you agree! I was very ill for a number of years due to an infection, and I started juicing. Juicing is really amazing. Beets can really make you feel good. Here is a good recipe on beet Liver Cleanse: http://dd6d3670.theseforums.com

OK, so it's not my imagination. Beets do make you feel good! I often have a problem with low energy and when I drink beet juice it shakes off that sluggishness. I take advantage of their sweetness to soften the taste of strong tasting vegetables like collards. Yes, you can juice collard greens! As an extra boost I may add garlic/onion and kelp powder to my veggie juices. Oh yeah, and cayenne.

Yes, fresh juices are good and I love it. It is good to get a good juicer as some juicer may kill the enzyme during the process. However, a good juicer is very expensive here. I may also want to try make juices with green leafy vegetable with cucumber and tomatoes. This is good for our health too. However, I would look for those organic vege if possible, to avoid drinking toxin into my body. I have not seen this video but will try to view it when I have time. Thanks for your sharing.

ALPHA, you're right, good juicers can run from $300-1000 or more. However, I love the Breville model that I have and it runs retail around 100 bucks. Not to sound like a Breville commercial(lol) but it really is a good juicer for the money. As far as buying organic, in my area I was really surprised that the difference in price for organic veggies was not that much at all. So I buy organic as much as possible too and would recommend that. One thing about juicing is all the pulp that it seems like such a waste to throw away. I've actually used the pulp of fruits like pineapple and apples to add to plain yogurt rather than waste it. Also, I recently bought a dehydrator and I'm going to experiment with making veggie chips with the leftover vegetable pulp. Oh my, I love being thrifty!
