is removing excel password right

today one colleague want to edit a spreadsheet of the former staff, but he found that it is locked by password. so he ask IT deparment to solve this problem. IT deny this application because of information security. At last, he ask online support with money to removed this password. actually it is obvious that IT can do this job, but they said they need to respect the other's job. Now i just wanna to talk about is it right to remove the others excel password if it is not about private thing? hope lotter give me much informations and guidence!

If it is the confidential files for business, of course it is better not to unblock it. But frankly, I can tell you it is quite easy to unblock the passwords for Word or Excel files
I am not a professional IT person, but I can do it in a minute. It is just too difficult to break the Winrar passwords. So if you really want to set a password for the confidential files, you should zip it by Winrar and then set the password.

i am so appreciated for your pointout about how to set a safe pasword, yeah you are absoluetly right. the buyer removed passwords in a very short time. i just can believe that. why the password is so weak? i am so confused. i can not believe microsoft encryption and code again. thanks

I think it is not right, because he might be able to claim someone else's work as his own. He may do so if the management has given the go signal to do it and they are informed that that work has been done by a former employee, and not by the current one. The password was there for a reason and in this world where competition is very fierce, I can't blame if the former employee is just being cautious and extra careful. Afterall, excel files that are unprotected can be easily altered and messed up with.

i agree with you, from now on i have known how to deal with this case if i met with it. thanks for showhow. i think excel is very complicated if you do not design it but to understand of others work. i will choose to redesign new one to replace the old form
