The cats and rats

mouse in a printer - a dead mouse in printer
India
April 4, 2013 5:43am CST
In most homes in my you can see so many mouse, on the streets cows, dogs and cats; the cows and dogs sit very comfortably on the streets, they don’t bother if a vehicle passes by or blows horns. The stray cats enter homes, drink milk and steal meat fish from kitchens; one cat even tried to drink milk that was boiling as it was kept for boiling. It is said; cats close their eye while drinking milk; I have never observed this. I have fitted steel wire nets over all doors and windows to prevent entry. For mouse I have kept rat traps; just the cage type; it does not kill the poor chap; but once inside it can’t come out; we release them near the river. Today I am upset; I saw a dead mouse in my printer; it is too much; some have advised to keep rat-poison; I don’t like this, after eating they become thirsty and run for water even if you keep a bowlful near it. Next day your house smells so bad, it is a Herculean task to search for the corpse and dispose of it. What you do to get rid of mouse? Please help me. Also do you find cows, dogs, cats and other stray animals on your streets? Do you ever found a dead mouse in your home, inside washing machine, tv, air-conditioner? Please respond comment and share your views. Thanks in advance. Professor Dr. Bhuwan Saraf. PhD. 4th April 4, 2013. Cheers have a lucky day ahead.

Hi Prof !I love cats , they are so cute and lovable. I haven't observed that cat closes eyes when drinking milk , thanks for the information i will try to observe this to my cat. My cats don't steal food , he waited until i gave. He knows how to disposed properly . So my area is not foul smelling. Seldom we have stray cats around because if there is we drive them or catch them. Rats are my enemies , they are so yaky , dirty and very dangerous to our health. One very good strategy to have a zero rat around is to have have plenty of cats. They are good catcher of rats. No need for rats traps or any pest control formula , cats alone solves this problem.

They don't do it all the time. I've seen them squint rather than close them. Maybe when they are drinking like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QooxYZjnhk

Thanks for response Angel There are tons of stray cats, they catch rats, eat some and at times leave half eaten stuff in our homes. We have a say, when some one does some thing bad secretly, people put the remark, you are drinking milk like a cat closing eyes and think no body is looking at you

Well, a couple of yrs ago, we had issues with mice in our house, and wish we would have had cats in the house to help get rid of them. But since they left, things have been OK.

i remember my old place when i was just renting a room. the place was old and quite dirty. i had problems with rats there. what i did was to dispose all the unnecessary things inside the house and cleaned the house. then, i tried to cover all the visible holes in my room to disallow the rats to enter my room. after four months, i was able to have a free-rat room.

I am happy you got rid of them by closing all visible holes, but what if they enter through the door and windows, ventilators. Thanks for response

Its not rat who irritated me. Squirrels i hate that creature who destroys many crops in my farm. I search many methods to control it, but no one results. But recently i got some writings regarding this topic and i tried Wildlife Trap method. It really work out.
Control methods for squirrels (black, red grey) include live trapping, physical capture, shooting and relocation of the animal.

hello dada, I don't have any trouble with rats in our house. I have a cat who took care of mice and our dogs chases the bigger rats. There are rats running around the ditches especially at night but don't come inside houses- and if ever a rat entered our backyard, our dogs will surely chase the poor thing. Hugs to you and maa

There must be something up with the rats here. Even the big dog will not touch them. They will kill frogs and rabbits. Rats? Nope. They look at us like "Oh I don't wanna mess with that guy".

hello sir! before we always had rats living in our oven. they would pull out the insulation and drag in garbage inside the walls of the oven. we won't be able to safely use our oven in the long run cause they might have done damage to the parts inside and our oven would smell awful. it was a major problem for us. now we have a very effective rat and cockroach control in our house. we have our two two year old dogs chase them out of the our new oven and out of the house. so far our two dogs are the most effective pest control inside the house.

Thanks for response, do you use any device that produces ultra sound waves to drive the rat and cockroaches My host in Cebu told me an interesting story about the rats in her house, she had gone to provinces and came via a boat, there were rats in the boat, some rats entered her bag some how and get multiplied fast.

I have seen cows, monkeys, cats and dogs on street when I was in my home country. Here many friends ask me about that. For most of them stray animals on streets is a thing of past. Here, it is unlikely to see a stray dog or cow, but I have seen cats on streets. Rats at home is not a good and healthy living environment for humans. It may not be the case that we do not care, all the people living in a village should observe cleanliness and drive a cleaning campaign periodically. Same is the case with cockroaches. We may clean our house, but rats and cockroaches will come from neighbour's house. Rats will start living in a house where they do not find scarcity for food. Since they are scavengers, try to destroy rotten food, and avoid hidden dark places at home. Unknowingly we create hidden places at home. Back side of tables, cupboards etc are suitable for rats to make their hiding.

lol i don't want to stress more as to how to get rid of the rats at home as one of my discussions before was deleted because how i told people here how i eliminated the rats..but they can really be pests...munching on clothes and boxes and papers and yes it can be a Herculean task to find the rotting rats..and boy do they smell that bad! But lately i have just been using those stick pad like, its the size of a letter paper which is very stick, its like very very thick honey on it and i place it on places where rats usually pass ( as for me at the back of the cabinet.. i placed it there and voila, i found 4 of them lol stuck on the pad.. and lately no rats. wow you have cows on the streets? we only see cows here on the pasture.. but not in the streets here in the city... but we do have cats and dogs everywhere. At home we have two pet dogs and none of cats as we are asthmatic. The dogs are not that hairy so no problem at all.

I have seen a couple of mice outside my house and another couple of small mice inside my house in 20 years. So, it is not a problem. My neighborg`s cat keeps them away. And while it is true that sometime the cats mess with my plants, I prefer that to mice.

Hi I used to see more cows and dogs during my childhood. But now i rarely see them on roads. May be the population has decreased. Rats are see here at nights times. They bite and eat the car wires from down near the bonnet. As of now no remedy for this.

Thanks for response, in many places cow population decreasing, because they are killed and eaten and sold by a particular community, this has to be stopped.

Make your house clutter free.Kill the rats you trap and ensure waste is not thrown around.Make a residence association and keep your residential area free of waste.Burn all unwanted waste at once. This will reduce the problem of mice.

Hi Professor I am very lucky to say I have not had to deal with rats (which I have a great fear of) mice yes but where I live especially farm areas people will have a cat which will rid of the mice. I am not sure how I would deal with a rat I would probably pass out from fright aha it is nice you do not want to see these rodents suffer but honestly if I had rat problems I would seek to get poison. I have heard that rats can carry disease's which would be my main concern.
