At work we are having a compaign this month where asking donations for the local shelter (the one I volunteer with), and now a cat llitter drive. Now I have had people yell at me, walk out, you name it. My boss keeps tracks in the computer, and said I did the lowest amount. Well out of the ladies I work with I put in 6 hours per week just going feeding, cleaning, and caring for the animals (now add the gas i use to drive there and back), I donate food, hay, and so on regularly, now the items that I put in the auction. I put in a lot more things than any of them put in this month. I am tired of people lecturing me for 10 minutes asking for money. I have people throw their bag of food at me, and walk out.

I am at home relaxing job searching, still nothing from my seasonal boss - getting rather annoyed now.

A simple no thank you would suit, not complaing, or lecturing me.

Exactly, but they don't see that. I am the one that is bring the animals , cleaning their cages, and taking them back to the shelter.

Oh my, now see if they did this to me where I work (the customers) I'd find it hard to hold my tongue. We ask for donations four times a year for various organizations. We have those who tell us why they won't donate, but that's few and far between. Most say "already have" or "donate through work".

Would you like to donate a dollar or two for the local animal shelter? No thank you. That's all that needs to be said. There's no reason to cancel a purchase or throw food at you. That seems over the top. What's wrong with them?

Exactly, buy people in this town are cheap and nasty. I had one lay throw a bag of pig ears ont he ground and stomp on it because they weren't big enough for her. It's pathetic what some of these people will do.

Hi friend, good to hear that you are collection donation for the needy people. Don't worry for your boss words, even though the amount is low, you collected some money for the needy people and work hard to collect the money. Be proud about it. It is not easy to collect donations, most of the people don't give importance to this kind of donation collectors and insult them a lot. You bear all the pains to collect the donation, so you are deserved for the appreciation

I go to Pet Smart regularly. For those of you unfamiliar with the store. Its a large retail store dedicated to pets and their needs. Each time when checking out you are asked if you would like to donate $1.00 to the local animal shelter- and because I am a pet lover (obviously if I am in there so often), I say yes without hesitation. I clearly do not understand any need to be rude to someone asking for a donation- so I understand you being fed up with that! I wouldn't be able to take to much of that!! You are more patient the I could ever be. If I were you I would start my own log of the other things you contribute- and when told you are the lowest producing for donations- I would whip it out and be like that may be- but look at all the other time I myself have donated to the cause! Keep up the good work- It only takes one gesture at a time to change the world :)
