Political Attack Ads Already?

Whether you love him, or hate him, Justin Trudeau is now the Liberal Leader in Canada. He's had the position for less than 24 hours, and already the smear campaign has started. I don't get it. In my opinion, Trudeau, the son of Former Prime Minist Pierre Elliot Trudeau, and the other Canadian political party leaders, need to get out there, and start putting spots on TV about why they are great leaders, not why the other party leaders suck. Why is it in Politics, be it Canadian or American politics, people must smear each other? I think we'd learn more about the character of our party leaders and the rest of our politicians, if they'd show us why they make the best leaders, instead of engaging in a bunch of meaningless, and immagure mud-slinging. I don't know if there's going to be another election or not (seems all we ever do in this country is vote in Elections) but until there is, this crap is all we are going to hear. Thank God this is an off-year for American elections. The last thing I need to hear is mud-slinging from both sides of the border.

I know for the last 30 years here in america, politics have gotten much worse. Ever since Ronald Reagan things have been going down hill. You're right, political races have become smear campaigns rather then a true race for the best man. I know here in america, it seems the right wing does all the mud throwing and it does not show them in a good light. All it shows the people are that they are only in it for one thing, they are selfish and greedy. Who needs a leader like that. Not me, not anyone. And lets face it, politics has not been about the people in many years. It has always been about them and how much money they can make. We are always the afterthought.

I don't know much about Canadian politics but it doesn't seem much different than the U.S. in that aspect. All politicians seemed to be worried about is getting re-elected and paid. I don't think there are many politicians in the world currently who care about other things in places where there are elections. They start campaigning again the moment they get into the seat and the smear campaigns keep continuing. I agree with you though. I think I would like it if politicians spent more time explaining why they would be better and actually explaining it rather than the numerous "catch" phrases and more they use. Instead of saying "I promise not to raise taxes." Something like "I will work towards making sure there are no tax increases." or well anything more realistic. Hopefully this ends by next year for you, we have more elections then.. smaller but still.

You're absolutely right. Smearing the other guys doesn't make you smell any better. The next schedule election isn't until 2015. Do we really have to suffer through the next two years of this?
