why would someone make a date then cancel without contact?

I basically got ditched today. Someone asked me on a date and I agreed. They were suppose to let me know a time and such three days ago and never contacted me. When I asked yesterday, they said they had to wait and see on their work schedule. But, they never contacted me as the date was to be today. Why do people do this? Any thoughts?

they said that they had to wait and check on their schedule. i would have understood from this that if they don't call or make further contact, it means the date is cancelled and they are too busy. i know it would have been better and more polite if they called. on the other hand, they didn't make a fixed commitment too.

I think it's pretty rude. I think that someone just changed his mind and rather then try and explain or come up with an excuse, he just decided not to contact you at all. So if he asks you out again, say no. And if he starts to explain, no matter what it was, he still could have told you and it shows what kind of person he is. Don't bother.
