The need for storing food and perishable items gave rise to the use of cold storage. People use refrigerators at home to store food items that can turn bad if not frozen. But this process is not limited to homes; even big food chains, manufacturers, and food suppliers have cold storage facilities. There are various things that need cold storage solutions. Huge departmental stores that order food items in bulk need this facility so that people who come to buy the goods can buy them while they are still fresh. The most common items to refrigerate are the dairy products like milk, butter, heavy whipping cream, yogurt, cheese, sour cream, cream cheese and ice cream. The main reason behind freezing them is that they need to be under optimum temperature and that is what these cold storages do. Other than dairy products vegetables also need to be refrigerated. Things like peas, beans and okra are often sold in raw frozen form. They not only make for easy consumption but also taste good. Some fruits are also in their best condition when refrigerated. This helps to increase their shelf life. You may also have noticed meat and fish even when fresh are kept on ice slabs. This is because the ice helps to keep them from rotting. When all the supply is not sold on a particular day, they are frozen. Even when we buy meat and fish in huge quantities for consumption, we cold store most of it and consume the little that we need. There are many houses that have a walk in chiller. It is nothing other than a room that is built to act like a freezer. Just as you have a walk-in closet, this room is a freezer in itself. The main reason for having such a room in a house is to be able to store a considerable amount of produce at a time. Cold storage solutions also prove beneficial to store blood in blood banks. This helps to keep the blood fresh so that people can use it when they are in dire need of it.
