Peggy Fleming's husband is a real class act

So if you've been reading my posts, you know that I came into possession of some of Olympic gold medal figure skater Peggy Fleming's parents' possessions recently. My aunt's fourth husband Jack's father was once married to her mother. I like to think of it as "distantly unrelated by marriage". Anyway, my aunt had found this box of things in my uncle's garage. They had come from his father's garage, and I assume they were left in his possession when Ms. Fleming's mother passed away. She had tried to contact her, but didn't know how to go about it. The only person she was able to get hold of was a fan, and she didn't want to leave such personal things in the hands of a fan. The things sat for years, and then I guess it was when I posted on Facebook that I was going to a skating event that she mentioned them. I told her that if she couldn't figure out how to return them, send them to me and I'd try. I guess it was 3 - 4 weeks ago that the subject came up again and she sent them to me. When I opened the box, I saw that these were really personal things, and they needed to be returned to the family. After dropping a few message to people on Facebook I came up with the idea of contacting the US Figure Skating association. They responded within a day, and Ms. Fleming's husband responded later that evening, and the rest is history. He called and we chatted, and he sent me a letter with a $50 bill, told me I could keep the autographed photo that was in the box, and gave me an address to send it to. So I went to the post office and sent it. I didn't hear back from him, so I checked the tracking number and it was delivered. It was a week later, and I hadn't heard, and I really thought they were blowing me off, when I got another e-mail. He let me know the box had arrived, and he had intended to wait until she opened it to contact me. But apparently she's really emotional about it, and hasn't opened it yet. And here I was kicking myself for not requiring a signature, and thinking maybe somebody had stolen it. So after she opens it, I expect him to drop another not, plus he said she will send a thank you letter and an autographed picture. He seems like a real class act, and I'd say she is a very lucky woman to have found him.

You are really a savvy person that you contacted th US Figure Skating association. If only your aunt mentioned it to you earlier. The gold medalist was certainly carried away by emotion when she received the pakage, which reminded her of her parents,so she didn't open it at once.Sounds like the husband is kind and considerate .

My aunt just didn't think of that. Ms. Fleming lost her father when she was 16, so I can see how it would be very emotional for her. And yes, her husband seems very nice.

@dawnald Now she can keep what you sent her as a remembrance of her parents.

That is so amazing, i am glad to hear that he wasn't just blowing you off after he got the package. And i await to hear news of the next communication you receive from him once they have gone through the box of belongings. :)

Yeah, it is amazing.... But then I am distantly not related by marriage, after all. :)
