hiccup or hiccough

hiccup or hiccough....... show your roots, which way do you spell it? (i am a hiccough type of gal...)...and am deeply disturbed that firefox's spell check does not recognize both, even though dictionary.com recognizes both....

Hiccup for me. Hiccough is right too. It's just that to me they are different. A hiccough is a half hiccup and half cough. There is also the hicburp.

I know this is an old post but, I spell it hiccup. Hiccough I only heard on the Honeymooners. I think it was Ed Norton that said it. I am sure you know the Honeymooners.

I have always heard it as hicup, I never heard it the other way and it is not a cough so I wouldn't say hiccough.
