One of the Collectors Top Choices in Trains I think that everyone at one time or another has heard about the Lionel train and I know for the train collectors, this is most likely at the top of their list of favorites! Every year when I was a kid, my father would set up my older brothers Lionel train set around the Christmas tree and let me control it around the tree. This set was the classic old school set and the trains were heavy, especially the solid metal locomotive. I remember putting smoke pellets in the locomotives smoke stack and watching it puff around the Christmas tree. I think I was about five then, but can still remember it. The set also had a lighted caboose car and I'm not sure which car it was, but one of those whistled when you turned one of the handles on the transformer. I do believe to this day that my brother still has this train set. I cannot believe how valuable some of these vintage trains are worth and I wonder if the Lionel train cable thought that these trains would become so desirably collectible. I think that whether you're just started out or whether you're an avid collector, you should at least have some Lionel trains in your collection! Think of it as a great investment and as something you can pass on to your family. I wish at one time that I had gotten to train collecting, but RC helicopters are my passion. I have posted a lens on a project that I am working on. It is a customized Trex 450 clone. And if my girlfriend caught wind that I have invested over $500.00 into it by tapping into our monthly bill money, she would ring my neck (LOL)! Speaking of a ring, that's what she wants me to be saving up for, our wedding rings. But back to the subject of Lionel trains I like them a lot because of their quality and their large size. I guess it's with all collectors; it's what you personally like. You can have a room of ten different train collectors and some will like the smaller such as the N gauge, some will like HO gauge, some will like the O gauge and others just love their Lionel Trains! Ebay carries a large variety of vintage Lionel trains, train sets and accessories. If you dig deep enough into the auction site, you can manage to come across some great deals to add to your collection. If some of the trains are not in mint condition, that doesn't mean that they're not worth money. The worst things you can do is to try to restore it or make any modifications to them. This will completely make them lose their value! Ebay carries a huge selection of used lionel trains on auction, so this would be a great place to check if your a collector. Amazon carries a nice selection as well, but it seems that the majority of them are new. I guess it is basically what you're looking for.
