I am considering whitening my teeth, but at the same time I am very nervous about the entire procedure. So please help me out people. Anyone who had teeth whitening? Is it safe for my teeth? What are the effects of whitening on my fillings or veneers? How long will the results last?

The most common and effective method to cosmetically whiten teeth involves the use of custom-made trays. These thin, clear, flexible and comfortable trays fit over the teeth like a glove. These trays carry a whitening solution similar to hydrogen peroxide that lightens the teeth generally while you sleep. Bleaching is not always a permanent solution; the effects may diminish with the passing of time. Optimally, this period lasts six months to two years. Some studies quote periods of anywhere from 6 months to 10 years. Not everyone is a good candidate for whitening depending upon if you have had cosmetic dentistry previously. Bleaching has little or no effect on most restorative materials. It may reduce the bond strength between enamel and composite restorations, at least for a short time. Bleaching has no effect on porcelain or crowns. My sister had a teeth whitening procedure done on the teeth which had a crown from the clinic of Dr. Davis Silberman at Texas. There are many studies supporting the overall safety of whitening by bleaching. Precautions are advised to protect surface enamel, for example by using calcium sulphate to prevent calcium loss and use of fluoride to promote surface hardness.
Dr. Silberman offers Tooth Whitening and the cosmetic result of simple and relatively inexpensive Tooth Whitening can be an easy and very conservative way to enhance ones appearance.
