Turning A Fish Into A Prey

I met a girl in the mall while I was buying shoes. We chitchat for few minutes on what we’re doing and exchanged numbers. After two days, she called me to ask if I am willing to do something for her. She knows I’m doing marketing and business development. I said yes, why not if I can help her and make a difference. I told her to wait for me within 30 minutes and I’ll meet her. As the elevator’s door opened, I saw a big sign “NU SKIN” and I knew instantly what I’m heading to. Should I back out? Or should I push through? My experiences taught me to turn a stranger to become a prospect and I know that’s what she is intending to do with me but I will never concede. I greeted her and we chatted more on marketing stuff, what I do most of the time and my long term goals. You know, opening lines of a “pre-selling person” when they’re trying to offer you products such as skin care, supplements, insurance or even a system. She told me to come with her to watch a presentation. We sit and listened to a guy talking about “short term goals, long term goals, assets, and time management” I just smiled, stand up and told her “I would like to discuss more opportunities for her”. This is my chance to turn the situation in favor to me. I let her know that I am already a pro on these kinds of multi-level marketing techniques, talking politely without offending her. I started jokingly, “we are really destined to meet”. I can help you with your goals. See, I am offering my services to her instead of her baiting me. She replied, “Yes, I think I need your help instead of me. “ How did I win over her? First, I point out specifically that I know what she’s doing, where she’s leading to and it the techniques she’s doing will not work out. One good example is comparison or siting examples. I paint a picture on her mind what’s in it for her doing the multi- level marketing, with no sure ball customers. I sited some examples of a specific multi-level marketer, doing the same thing, inviting people, misleading them, talking and getting them to sign up or avail the product and end up losing the customers. I asked her, “what would you feel if you will just sit at home, check on your laptop and these customers will come to you?” You don’t need to do the door to door thing, walk under the sun, wasting your time talking to strangers and not really hearing you. You wasted your time, efforts and money. Second, I introduce to her the benefits of my services. I showed her my work of art, the before and after results of my clients who came to me for consultancy, help them get leads, and make their business stable. We set an appointment to meet again and to discuss the package of my services. Third, which I never want to discuss with her til the result come out. I never want to smash the high hopes she has right now for the path she choose to earn a living. MLM or Multi-Level Marketin is not long term, it will always be a new trend, new product, and new target market. In the growing industry of Makati, BPO companies are like mushrooms, springing up everywhere. They can’t compete with that. Let’s say a hotel owner would like to grow his money, thinking where to put it. Will he choose multi-level marketing over making his business global? He will grab the opportunity of globalization, wherein he can set up his business on different parts of the world without spending half of his fortune while on MLM, he needs to spend a lot of time finding potential networks with only 20% probability out of 100 he spent time with. Outsourcing is the main alternative because you can get high value individuals, a company who understand your goals and help you achieve it. Flat Planet is more than that. We just don’t provide highly experienced talent or fill in the services according to your needs. We create long term relationships with our clients as they grow their business and we grow with them. Another point is the target market; People will not buy your product because they need it. It’s not even the basic commodities in life. Two reasons: Consumers buy it because “I have a lot of money to try new tech products that are good for me.” Or “I’m desperate because I’ve tried everything, hoping that it will work for me.” The rest who are in the middle class, living on a day to day payroll with a minimum to average income will not order for a second one, not even a third. Once they’ve tested it, It’s finish! Do you think after making a demo and persistently pursuing them to test and try your product for $80 of a one bottle of supplement because it’s so good for your skin or health, or after purchasing a test trial of $2,000 detox machine, take note: it’s only a trial package…do you think they will come back to you and say.. “I want to order some more?” Nah. It will not happen if you approach a wrong target market. Lastly, how long does she think she can do this kind of job? People are smarter now and they will not get involve with “new technology” crap products. Consumers choose according to their preference and their lifestyle. If you don’t understand the market trends today, people’s behavior and the way they want to make business with you, you cannot attract them to become a prospect or a good lead.
