Stress is the emotional and physical strain caused by our response to pressure from the outside world. According to doctors, STRESS is one of the main sources of disease today. There are many forms of stress: Mental stress, physical stress, relational stress, emotional stress and specially financial stress. We can never avoid stress but we can sure minimize it. Allow me to share with you on … HOW TO MINIMIZE STRESS? LEARN HOW TO SAY “NO!” Do not accept anything that is beyond your capacity. Every weighing scale has it’s own weight capacity. If you put more than what it can carry, the scale will break and be rendered useless. It goes the same way with your work load, if you accept too much beyond your capacity. Your schedule will break, your quality time with your family will break, your health will break and soon or later your relationships might break. As Filipinos, we try to be nice to everyone at our own expense. Never also think that you do not know how to get along with others. In other words the idea of “Walang Pakisama.” Never try become a people pleaser. Never ever entertain the idea that you are being impolite if you say no. Allow me to teach you a way on how to say no appropriately. “As much as I want to help you right now, but I am overloaded with deadlines. Can I get back to you immediately as soon I finished?” If you do not know how to say no, there is a tendency that some people will abuse your kindness. Taking on more than you can handle is a perfect recipe for stress. LEARN HOW TO AVOID PEOPLE WHO STRESS YOU OUT Stay away from stressful or negative people. Stressed out people make other people feel stressed. They have the tendency to release their anger, frustrations and stress towards others. Unfortunately, there are some people whom you want to avoid but you can’t avoid. It is either you work together or live together with them. If you can’t avoid them, be wise to limit your interaction with them. You do not want to be near to a drunk who is about to vomit. It works the same way with people who are stressed, know when you should bail out so that you won’t be vomited on. At the end of the day, we have a choice. LEARN HOW TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR ENVIRONMENT Identify your stress triggers and learn how to manage them. If the Metro Manila traffic stresses you out, choose a place of work nearer to your place, so you don’t have to commute that far. It will save you time, money and stress. If watching the news can add more mental stress, stop watching and listening to negative news. If working with people who are not competent and at par to your standard causes stress. As a boss, you have the choice to replace them. As an employee, you may request for a transfer. You cannot control what happens to you but you can control, what you expose yourself to. The last advise for me is the best advise I can give to anyone. LEARN HOW TO COMMIT YOUR DAILY PLANS TO GOD As a wealth and life coach, I live in a world where my kind of profession can demand so much. Aside from a daily blog I write, I have to think of a good CHINK POSITIVE QUOTE. I do a lot of travelling by land and by air with an average of 4 hours per day on traffic. I do have many invitations for speaking engagements, just for this week alone, I will be doing 6 sessions and I will fly to Cebu for at least 3 times this week. I have to meet clients to do my Training Need Analysis, to help serve my clients better. I have to prepare the modules for my talks for the next speaking event. I have also written 6 books and still writing the next one. I also do personal mentoring and coaching to a few clients. I also do a weekly program “Chink Positive” every Sunday at 6am over at TV5. I am also actively involved with our local church as a group leader. I am a husband to my lovely & beautiful wife and a father to my three wonderful kids. With so many hats to wear, how in the world can I live without stress? But praise be to God, if He called me to do this, He also gave me the grace to accomplish it. I thank God that I do not have to do it alone. I have a partner who is at work. All I need to do is to prepare and plan then trust God that He will empower me to fulfill the calling He has in my life. Left on my own, I would live a very stressful life. But the great news is, I don’t need to strive, force, manipulate, in a rush to achieve any success quota. Because I know promotion comes from God not from man. Even if I work 24 hours a day but if God does not allow it, it will never happen. It is God who open and closes the doors of opportunity. I just need to understand that I should never be a control freak that I want to be in control of my future, my success, my timeline and my goals, this in itself can add so much stress. I just need to accept that God is in control not me. All we need to do is just trust in His goodness, His grace and His promise, that He who started a good work in my life will bring it into completion. My prayer is that this short blog will encourage you to trust God for your future. In return, you will live a blessed, happy, peaceful & stress-proof life.
