toothless international institutions

after world war ii, many international institutions came in to existence, with a primary objective to settle geopolitical and geoeconomic issues and disputes among member countries. united nations, world bank and imf are among them. the world is at the turning point in its history and current international conflict and crisis ask for a far reaching changes in these golbal institutions, so as to keep pace with present day scenario. if the manyfold challenges before the world are to be effectively managed, then the 21st century world can not remain united with 20th century rules and institutions. we are fast moving toward a world where atlantic countries will face greater challenges from emerging economies of east headed by china. with global balance of power clearly shifting, circumstances that led to the birth of these world bodies are no longer relevant. newly launched brics and china led asian infrastructure investment bank are few example. this is the reality that western countries are getting stiffer challenges from east than never before. slowly the world will move from g-7 to g-20. the present un body could not play its part efficiently in the crisis like afghanistan, libiya or iraq, even for that matter in israel. to make the matter worse, geopolitical competition and rivalries between the great powers are sharpening. africa is becoming the play ground for the control of resources. there is no longer any common interpretation of international rules and laws. powerful states interpret rules to suit their own geopolitical agenda and intervention policies. while the un merely has become a helpless spectator. the intervention of us in libiya and russia's action in crimea are few such examples for world to see. with growing economic power, even china has started flexing its muscles around south china seas. the us is undermining the status of un by sidelining and bypassing this world body. it made no efforts to take un mandate for intervention in arab world. the new cold war between russia and the west will further paralize the un body. the only way to make the un worth its salt, is to search for solution on basis of dignity and respect for international laws. if great powers assert one set of rules for themselves and different sets for other, then the world would be torn by conflicts and crisis.
