An hdmi converter will be useful for SD game consoles on HDTV ?

I want to play SD game consoles on HDTV.So i think an hdmi converter will be ureful for me. I've been thinking either an hdmi converter or getting a component cable. I was hoping to find someone who has had pretty much this exact problem, and has found a good solution.That would be great,so I don't start throwing money away on products that may not even change a thing. I'm hoping the hdmi converter could be good(hopefully even an affordable , as that would be a great value.I could use it on all the old consoles so even if it is a bit pricey, it will probably be worth it.
