Apart from the on-the-job training, most fresh graduates often are as a result of going through stages in school having learned only some things practical in their field of study. While this is understandable for the most part, those who may have prior working experience – be it as part-timer or an intern –in their field of study are undoubtedly more experienced than their counterparts who do not. Although grades are one thing some employers consider when hiring, especially for fresh graduates, having known how their field of profession works as a result of previous working experience is an asset in itself that these fresh graduates should at least be able to put legitimately in their resume. After all, who learns better: a person who learned from books lines by lines or him / her whose knowledge was able to apply and practice? – It is the latter. In today’s economy where hundreds of people are competing for a single work position every time, it pays for one’s resume to stand out among the rest. For a fresh graduate, this is only possible with good grades and previous working experience via internships. What makes internship a first option to fresh graduates as opposed to part-timing or freelancing is the means of payment – paid or unpaid – but is nonetheless taken as an official working experience. Learning does not end in graduation. It is a life-long process. There are things you will easily learn at work than you would at school hence the value of working experience. If you are having work sometime after you graduate, it is wise that you invest in yourself experience that lifts your profile higher than you would.
