Anyone tried Shotgun microphones before?

Saw an article on shotgun mics in Sundown Sessions online music recording studio site
Interesting and would like to experiment on it. Have anyone used it before? Are there any setting changes to be made in the recording setup when recorded with shotgun mic, I usually use an AT2020.
Here we share some information regarding why shotgun mics are considered to be perfect for recording in home environments & why choose function over appearance.

I've seen them used in our old church. Not sure they make much difference compared to other mics. They seem the same to me but then I'm not the one using them.
