English teaching in China

it's true that Chinese is extremely important in China, to everybody. but does it really means that we should put English learning in a lower position and then Chinese in a higher one than before? can't there be any peaceful coexistence between English and Chinese, can there?

You see for interacting with friends/people who belong to other countries, it would be desirable to learn English. English is widely known in many countries. If one knows only Chinese language, then it get difficult to communicate with outside world.
