Dogs or Cats?

I've grown up my whole life with dogs. As I get older I've noticed a lot of people with cats. So I was wondering what I should get next a dog or a cat?

I've had both. I love cats and if they are treated well, they will love you back. Now, you shouldn't expect more from them than they are willing to give, however. I have feral cats who don't want us to even look at them. I have a semi-feral cat who will come to my bed and want pets, on his terms. And I have a few cats who will jump into our arms for pets and attention. Dogs are often more eager to please you. I have one dog who wasn't paid attention to as a younger dog, and he really doesn't care if we pay attention to him or not, so long as he gets his food, he's pretty much happy.

This is all depending on what you like. I personally have both cats and dogs and love them both. Some cats can be trained like dogs. I have had many of each and I wouldn't want to live my life without either.

Depends on your preferences. They both have their pros and cons: - Most dogs will follow you around, shower you with all the affection you could ever want, alert you to a visitor/intruder by barking, and help deter a burglar. Dogs are pack animals and, as such, will want to accompany you everywhere you go and be involved in everything you do. A dog will never let you forget how loved you are, but they may become a nuisance when they beg for a handout at the dinner table, smother you with excessive amounts of attention, or constantly get in the way as you walk, rushing to get in front of you and then stopping to check if you're still behind them. Dogs are believed to have associated with humans for the last 32,000 years, longer than any other domesticated animal. - Cats tend to be more subtle than dogs. They generally enjoy contact if their overall experience with humans is pleasant, and have been known to occasionally demand attention by sitting on your laptop or newspaper. They're born mousers, endowed with needle-sharp claws, lightning-fast reflexes, stealth, a decent sense of smell, and superior hearing and night vision to dogs. A cat may be less intimidating to a burglar than a dog but, on the plus side, cat attacks on humans are quite rare, and fatal attacks exceedingly rare. Dogs, on the other hand, are the #1 man-killer of domestic animals, with approximately 4.5 million attacks per year, 885,000 hospitalizations, 368,000 emergency hospitalizations, and 30 fatalities. Cats are the most popular pet in the world, with an estimated domestic population of 200 to 600 million. Top pet peeves with cats are destruction of furniture and kitty litter. A couple of tips: if you're high-strung, there's nothing more soothing than a purring cat in your lap. If you're lonely, a dog can keep you company. If you want a cat that will give you lots of attention like a dog, get a Siamese. If you want a dog that is quiet, good with kids, and unlikely to run; get a Bulldog (they're not very smart, though).

Cats are evil! I love dogs but I guess Some Guy Typing is correct. What one would fit better into your lifestyle? Would you like a cat? I would love a dog to walk but I'm currently living abroad.

Either or both! Whichever you get, the dog or cat will be a joy.
