What is your idea of a great celebration? Do you love big get togethers with lots of food and drink? Or do you follow the simple is better rule? For me it depends on what it is. Fourth of July is potluck. A friend of mine thinks no one should bring food to one of her parties. She cooks it all. But, people have food restrictions or dislikes so I like the bring a dish to share thing. And drinks. Some people like beer, some water, and some pop or gatorade. If it's a graduation party, I fix it all. I did that this spring for my daughter. I made too much and we ate food from that party for a week. No cooking! If I were throwing a party, what dish would you like to bring to share? I'd make the snickers salad, one of my daughter's favorite.
This is a really good dessert. Kids and adults alike love the stuff.Ingredients:(1) 3.8 oz. box instant vanilla pudding1 c. milk8 oz. Cool Whip3 apples3 Snickers regular size candy barsMix the pudd...

that snickers looks like a dream to me..what a wonderful way to have a salad..hahah I like get togethers and hope everyone contributes to the making of food.. Your friend who likes doing it all must be very picky about her parties or way to kind..

@Rosekitty Except for brownies. Yes, technically it is baking. I am putting it in the same category though.

@Rosekitty I used to not mine doing all the cooking. But, it's a lot of work. I am more relaxed if I am not having to do everything. And people have different tastes so if everyone brings something, everyone will have at least something they like.

I haven't been to anything like that for many years Ruth. The last time I went was at a company picnic and it was great fun. It was big with a lot of people and lots of good food and drink. There were big raffles too of which I won a great prize. So I liked that. But now, if I were to be invited to a get together, I would like it to be a nice simple dinner with some friends.

Simple is nice. Sometimes when there are too many people, it is hard to visit everyone.

@TiarasOceanView I find that hard to believe, Roz. You just seem so social.

@Gwensmom We would do a bunch... rummy with the younger folks, euchre, Spades, heart. The food would be things like potted chili, chicken wings, finger foods, and that kind of thing.

@TLChimes That sounds like my kind of party. Except I don't know how to play euchre.

Potluck is not what I like to do. My parties are always home cooked food but if the number is too large I order out lock, stock and barrel in the sense they come with the food with the entire paraphernalia, they lay the table, they serve and clear the table - lock stock and barrel

Let me bring cake. And eat it too. Hahaha. I like the idea of potluck. It's like giving and sharing food that you'd like others to try.
