It has been told a zillion times that meditation would help build one's concentration and calms mind. Trust me i have tried meditating with all the needed dedication towards it. But every time I try doing it, it floods my mind with thoughts just gushing from everywhere and all I experience at the end it a much more frustrated me trying to get rid of those thoughts. So how do people achieve that tranquility and calmness through meditation?

There are different kinds of meditation. Normally you are asked to empty your mind.. won't happen with me.. Believe me I've tried it a few hundred times. Then I learned about Christian meditation. I take one scripture from the Bible and keep meditating on it. Wow the results have been amazing. I have been doing this for a few years now, and I am so much at peace.

@beespeeks Your mind has a mind of its own and doesn't like to be restrained.. You may have to keep bringing it back a few hundred times.. it takes practice and effort.. but worthwhile in the end.

They say that is normal. You just have to concentrate on your breathing when meditating. I've yet to master it though.
