Camping Trip Disasters

I have three quick stories to tell about camping disasters. Two are stories from my Mom's childhood and early marriage to my Dad and the third one is what happened to my hubby, kids and I. My Mother will never forget when her Mom took her and her brother, sister and aunt camping. They were in a campground that had a bathroom luckily. After they set their tents up and were trying to fall asleep, the bottom fell out of the sky and it down poured so hard that the tents collapsed and they ended up spending the night trying to sleep in the bath room dirty floor! The next story is shortly after my parents married they had a friends (husband & wife) who invited them to camp with them at a campground somewhere in North Florida. They had all set up and was cooking their food over the open fire and had the meal ready to serve, when the Pest Control Truck went by and sprayed a big haze of pest control spray to control the mosquitoes. She said their whole meal was not pleasant with all that haze of smell. My Dad swore, he would never camp again and he has not. Then, the camping trip from hell with my husband and kids,,, the camp ground was trying to sell us a time share and wanted us to try out a camp spot for free. The camp spot they let us try was right under a bridge. All night long cars drove over the bridge and a frog croaked over and over. We could not sleep and since we lived not too far , my husband drove home to sleep and returned to get us the next day! We did not buy their dumb time share!

My goodness you sure had some bad luck with camping. I don't care for it myself all the dampness in the morning and stuff like bugs! My husband is one who loves the outdoors and is a toughie. Ha ha he slept out in the winter when our boys were young and they tried to sleep out there with him and they came in with bloodshot eyes and ice on their eyebrows. My husband slept in the tent until morning!

Some people tell of what a good time they had camping but I never liked it that much. Once we forgot the tent pegs and had to put sticks in the ground, one broke then it rained. If a person had a good setup maybe. I knew this guy that would go off all by himself into the wilderness without any food. All he said he did was to keep busy so to keep alive like fishing all day for supper. I sure don't like the bugs much. I just don't know what it was like when the first settlers arrived.

@Bluedoll I try to imagine what it was like for the first settlers. It had to have been so hard. To build a home and have to live in tents I just can't imagine. We are so spoiled in this country and God has blessed up richly and we don't appreciate what He has given us or our country would be headed in a whole different direction.

hmm, i reckon the only place i e'er camped where there were facilities was in yosemite? poured the entire 4 days 'n 3 nights 24/7 'n collasped our tent 's well. we jest slept in the truck, lol. from the 'xperiences yer families had, i'm purty sure there's been no such attempts? those time share folks 'f fer the birds. ne'er had nobody sprayin' fer skeeters either, found that a tad odd? 'course i dunno where all y'all were campin' 't 'n perhaps that's the way some places 're tended.

I did hear later that the camp ground who tried to sell us the time share, went under, went out of business.

Camping was never my thing. I never went camping and have no desire to. My idea of camping is sleeping on the living room floor with some snacks and a good movie. LOL. Nice!!!

I had never camped out.So no stories to tell,But The experience of sleeping on the dirty bathroom floor ,the pest control spray and sleeping under a bridge could not have been much fun.

While these are sort of funny, it truly is not. I mean sleeping on that filthy bathroom floor, getting mouth and nose fulls of pest spray and then the noise under the bridge? These are not conducive to promoting camping anymore oh dear poor you guys. The only camping story I have is the same with the pouring rain up in the mountains in England and it was freezing sitting in pools of water and the wind blowing in the tent..we had to get out of there and walk miles to a tiny pub down the road me and my girlfriend at the time..we were young and fit tho then.

You'd think those time share people would have given you a prime spot as they were trying to sell it to you. I haven't been camping since I was young (a very long time ago!)

Those time shares are often rip offs. I do not think camping is for everyone, and although my dad was a scout master, I never went camping growing up.
