How Do You Keep Yourself Healthy ?

Everybody wants a long and healthy life . I started keeping myself healthy , when I was operated for a Total Abdominal Hysterectomy at the age of 38 . I was on forced menopause because of my operation , so I followed my doctor’s prescriptions of vitamin supplements , such as vitamin E , C and calcium . In addition , I take fish oil . In the morning upon waking up , I drink more than 2 glasses of water . I don’t eat the fats of meats . Although sometimes , I would eat the skin of a fried chicken . I see to it that I eat veggies and fruits . I exercise on weekends and on holidays and whenever I can , after office hours in the evening . I drink at least 3 cups of green tea in a day . I seldom drink carbonated drinks . Before going to bed I drink a glass of water . I have a medical check-up every 4 months or so so I could check how healthy I am. So far , at my age of 55 year old , my health concern is sometimes my cholesterol would be above normal . However , it’s manageable after taking medication for a month or two . How about you guys ? I presume those younger ones , have no health problems at all yet .

I am 60, I have to say that I never changed my eating habits. I have always eaten fish, fruits and vegetables using olive oil. I almost never eat red meats or fatty meats like pork. The only thing I can say is that I am healthy, I have no health issues.

@SIMPLYD I have low blood, sometimes even too low early in the morning, no cholesterol at all. I believe that health is genetic, my Mom eats everything she likes, including cured meats, pork and fatty foods. She is 94 and never had a health problem, her mother was the same.

@SIMPLYD ..Yeah, so I help myself to larger helpings of pickles, and whatever. God didn't say don't eat this, this will give you ulcers, don't drink that, it will give you lactose intolerance. So it is his problem not mine.

I go astray sometimes but always feel we get out what we put in and will pay a price for our neglect if any. It's really good that you take the time to look after yourself. Really.

@Bluedoll I guess when we become older we become choosy with our chips though . Don't you think so too ? Most seem to be so salty to me now .

@SIMPLYD Chips are my weakness too usually doing movie time when a bowl sitting next to you is available. It used to be popcorn but I lost my desire for it.

Maybe you compensate the not strict exercise program with your strict diet . Our bad diet and sedentary life are what contributes to bad health.

I wish I can stop abusing my body by not sleeping too late. That's one health problem I need to curb. And also I need to exercise everyday. Even if I do walk a lot I still feel my blood circulation isn't doing good. I started eating healthier less than a decade ago so I hope that counts for something. I did it because I've got my own health problem so I have to do it.

So we both have this problem of sleeping late . But since last week , i forced myself sleeping already at 10:00 -10:30 . That way i get at least 7 hours of sleep , as i wake up 5 in the morning on weekdays . I think your eating healthier already counts a lot . But still you must couple it with exercise as the health experts say .

Every now and then I do try to look after myself and eat properly and such. I do walk every day with my dog, so that is something I guess. Other than that, I keep thinking tomorrow I will do better. I also work one day per week to keep my brain active. At 70 years old I have no problems as yet

You seem to have a healthy approach to reaching your goal. I more or less do what you do but not everything. I like sweets specially chocolates which I will not trade for anything in the world I also do not follow your water drinking habit.

My father has high blood pressure which means I am at risk as well. At 41, my bp is still normal but knowing that hypertension could run in the family I am taking some preventive measures. I exercise regularly. After driving my son to school, I do a 45 minute walk in the park near our house before I go home. Then at night I jog in place in front of our tv while watching my favorite teleserye, lol! With food, I don't have much problem with what to prepare since my family loves fish and vegetable, except my 7 year old who is very picky.

Wow, that's really enough to keep you healthy , that 45 minute walk in the house and jogging in place and a diet of fish and veggies. As to your son being very picky , it's normal for most kids . Our daughter was that also when she was still a kid.

I am always trying . But sometimes some sinful foods can be a tease specially at parties. I get to walk rushing everyday on weekdays morning in my high heels , going to the jeepney stand outside of the subdivision where we live . And that's for 5 minutes .

You seem to be following a very scrupulous health regimen after your operation, I am sure it would have paid rich dividends by now. I was operated upon for a gall bladder removal three years ago, since then have kept away from high calorie foods, but it is a difficult thing to keep pace with a strict diet regimen.

I'm afraid I haven't taken very good care of my body, but I'm pretty healthy for a 75 year old. I've had a hip replacement due to arthritis, but apart from that I'm fine.

I am 27 and I am fit and fine though some years back, I had a sport injury by hurting the soft tissues of my left elbow. I had a torn ligament. It took me years to stabilize. I took vitamins, glucosamine, fish oil and other supplements that helped in the healing process. I can no longer hit the gym as I used to before. I have a home gym. I exercise as and when time allows; I'm no more that gym-obsessed person. I do it mostly to keep fit these days. But so far, I am health-conscious though sometimes, I forget my limits and go on consuming excessive candies, sweets and junk foods. I really need to control myself. I do wake up and do water therapy by drinking 2 to 3 glasses of warm water first thing in the morning. I do monthly detox (home made juice of green apples and coriander) as well. I try to consume mostly vegetables in addition to red meat. If I have to rate myself on how health conscious I am on a scale of 10, I would say 5.5 at this phase. But I am trying to be stricter on this.

@SIMPLYD But honestly enough, I don't keep myself healthy to live longer. I am not really interested to have a long life. I focus more on living a quality life and I truly mean it. I keep myself healthy because I love it. It's a discipline I instill in myself.

Tha t's good because at an early age you are already health conscious . Sometimes we will notstart keeping ourselves healthy until we meet an injury . In addition , getting older would also make us be one because we know that the only way to live longer is to live healthily .

I'm not sure if I am that healthy! I drink two glasses of water upon waking up. I drink green tea instead of coffee because it has less caffeine or sometimes none, depends on the brand I am drinking. It keeps my skin from breaking out so it's always green tea for me. Recently I'm down to 50kg so I want to gain more weight though the gym instructor told me that I am still within my ideal weight. I prefer eating fish and seafood over any meat. I eat fresh fruits whenever I can. i eat Korean style cooked vegetables because I couldn't stand Filipino cooked vegetables for some reason. I ride my mtb or road bike on an average of 25kmph and going up a hill whenever I have the spare time which is usually early morning of Saturday or Sunday. I couldn't run anymore because my knee hurts sometimes from a volleyball injury I had when I was 12 years old. I keep myself away from sweets. Not very fond of chocolates unless they're swiss dark chocolate.

I try to go everyday to do some jogging in the morning, and in a very general way, I keep a mostly healthy diet. Not a lot of fats, red meat or very sugary foods. I am fairly young (twenty-something), but I think you are never "too young" to start caring for your own health.
