Is Sepp Blatter really doing football any favours by hanging on?

Sepp Blatter has confirmed that he will continue in his post as President of FIFA despite criminal charges now being levied against him. An ordinary player can be suspended if it is deemed that he has "brought the game into disrepute" by his conduct. If Sepp Blatter has not done so - many times over - then I'm a dachshund called Cyril (which I'm not). Blatter has said that he will not seek re-election next time round, but surely that is not good enough. His reputation is now so sullied that he is doing the noble game absolutely no good by staying in his post.
