There is a castle on a cloud, I like to go there when I sleep..... Love Les Miserables, the music is, I think, a bit on the soul humming transcendent level....anyways, what I was going to talk about is methods to get to sleep. I have found pulling out my favorite day dreams and letting them have at often works. The old tried and true is the won the lotto then what dream, the moved to another country, or the put myself in a favorite book also works. I love Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar series, and have often wondered what kind of herald I would be. Sometimes these pleasant ideas help me forgot the hamster wheel of anxiety that's keeping me awake. What about you? Do you count sheep? How do you get to sleep?

No, I do not count sheep, any activity keeps me awake even longer. I close my eyes and I try to empty my mind relaxing my body.

@Jessicalynnt By the way, for me it would be more than easy, I see plenty of them in the free field just in the back of our home.

my insomnia wins most nights. I usually write, read or watch TV until too tired not to.

Usually I just lay down, roll over on my side and I am out. Has to be my right side. I just do not always stay asleep.Same anxiety visits me. On the rare occasion I have trouble, praying helps. Someone once said it was because the devil does not want you to pray.

Good idea, no I don't count sleep, I just close my eyes and try and sleep, I guess thinking of what happening during the day. I try not to think of problems because then I end up trying to work them out in my head and then can't sleep.

It used to be I would listen to music, but it got to the point when the radio announcers would talk it would wake me up. So I did away with the radio, but the house deathly quite I would ever single noise (all those creaks). So now, I actually have to use a sound machine to be able to sleep.

If nightmares dont return back to haunt, after a few hours of tossing in the bed, I get a nap for some hours. But most of the time, insomnia wins. I try adjusting and making up for the lost sleep during the day, but again, I end up playing some game on the tablet.... When things were good, and normal, I remember, I was told to count in reverse or even keep taking the name of God until I would fall asleep. Tried these many times after it all started, but nothing helps much.

I do better if I let my mind wander, when I focus is when I stay away or worry or both

To be honest, never tried sheep counting. I just rest my head down and try to slowly shut the thinking off.
