Being a housekeeper can have it's good days and it's bad days

Today was one of the bad days at my job as a housekeeper. There's a man that's been living at the hotel I work at for months now. He left today leaving behind a kitchen packed with rotting food. The man had raw meat under his sink that he just let go bad along with veggies and fruit. I have no idea what would make a person live like that. This was one of the rough days as a housekeeper dealing with the smells and deep cleaning everything. Every inch was a disaster and it took 6 of us several hours to just clean the kitchen. There was a jug of milk on top of the fridge that was leaking milk out of the top. The pressure from the milk going bad had built up and cracked the seal allowing it to slowly release and drip out. I just wonder about all the days I knocked on his door and offered to clean his room and take his trash out and he said no. This could have been prevented so easily. Why didn't he just let us clean for him so it wouldn't get so out of hand?

My husband and I did cabin cleaning for a while at a large rental outfit in TN. It is a lot of work and I have a new respect for people who do the job.

Me too! I never considered housekeeping in the past. I was totally dreading this job and honestly it really isn't that bad at all, it's just those really intense rooms that show up every now and then. It's so nice when people really appreciate how much work it can be.

@msrascon Think back on our time cabin cleaning it still 'hurts' - we worked some days 8 am to 5 pm for 3 or 4 days in a row. We weren't young like the 20 year olds who did the same job. Those 4 level cabins with spiral stairs with 5 or 6 king beds to change - those were the killers.

@AbbyGreenhill Wow sounds killer, those are some long rough days. After 6 hours of housekeeping I'm ready to throw in the towel. I sure do love looking at a beautiful room that I just deep cleaned. There's some satisfaction in a job well done :)

I call this man a real "pig". I understand how unpleasant it must have been for you to clean this mess.

Yea for real. There's a definite difference between messy, dirty and just straight up disgusting.
