The Martian....plus Chowman!

The Martian, and the interior of Chowman

After long days of sitting at home getting bored, me and my boyfriend went out to have a fun day watching a movie and doing lunch somewhere good. It was the best day ever! First we got to see Matt Damon in "The Martian 3D" and totally enjoyed the humorous yet scientifically accurate portrayal of a man colonizing Mars. I love these space movies, though I wouldn't call The Martian science fiction, because it's so realistic. Two and a half hours after we had started the journey on Mars, we were hungry for some great Chinese cuisine. And the best one out there was Chowman. Starting off with Lat Mai Kai which was chicken lightly fried with onion and ginger pieces, we ventured into the main course of Chowman special noodles and Kung Pao chicken. Fully satiated our craving. And ohh, wasn't the ambience lovely! Soft chinese music flowing in the background, Fengshui settings and dim lighting just took us to another world. It was the best afternoon enjoyed in a long time. We were very happy at the end of the day, and that's what matters the most I guess What did you watch or eat on a movie-lunch outing day?

@ria1606roy I guess I will have to watch it in 3D next time I go. Wish it wasn't expensive to watch though.

@gudheart that's why we chose a weekday, because tickets are cheaper here on weekdays. On Sat and Sun, the price is an extra 50 rupees!

You are lucky that you got to enjoy a wonderful movie on science fiction and that in company of your friend. It is always more enjoyable to watch a movie in a theater rather than watching it on TV. You also got to enjoy sumptuous lunch of Chinese delicacies.I understand that there are some very good eating joints in Kolkatta, which serve authentic Chinese cuisines and people throng those outlets.

@ria1606roy - Watching a 3D movie in a theater is always thrilling. 3D experience is not available at home as such.

Chinese outlets are favorites of mine, and I am really happy that I got to spend such a wonderful time with my friend. And you are correct, it is pleasurable to watch movies in the hall, even more in 3D. I always watch movies in the hall that deserves to be seen that way.

haha thanks. It was really enjoyable. You should watch the movie, just because of the storyline, forget the visual effects.

So far as Chinese food in Kolkata is concerned, the great connoisseur Late Sankariprasad Basu once termed these as 'Indian Chinese' food. These are not Chinese foods. The spices and the other ingredients are not Chinese. In Kolkata, authentic Chinese food is available only at some very old, dilapidated restaurants at Tangra locality. The Chinese foods available at Tangra locality are again Kantonese Chinese food. It is almost impossible in entire India (yes, I am talking about entire India) to get Chinese food of Beijing variety.

you are right, authentic chinese food is very rare in India. The only other restaurant that was so good in making food so close to chinese was Tung Nam near Central Metro Station. It's an old one, handed town by 3 generations of a chinese family who came to Kolkata decades ago. They really have held the tradition, and the food is so nice and affordable.
