My Body is Giving Out

I know as we get older that things don't always work so well. But, come on!. I am only 43. I have started seeing a rheumatologist and he believes I have ankylosing spondylitis. But, you can call it AS. I am not bad enough for it to show on x-rays so I may be having an mri in my future. It is a type of arthritis that primarily affects the neck, back, and hips. But, it can also affect the shoulders, knees, and heels. Can also cause inflammation in eyes, lungs, and heart. But, it does make me tired and hurt. So, lucky me. I really hurt my back this morning. I bent and lifted too many times. Should I know better? Yes. I did it anyway. Paying for it now. Not moving too well at all. Or sitting. Or laying. So, what's your story? Hopefully, not a painful one.

Oh dear that is quite serious Ruthy. I am sorry you have this. I do have some arthritis all over and do have to be more careful now due to injuries incurred. Good to see you back and I pray this will ease up some once you get some medicine for it? I know it is a progressive condition but I hope they can treat it for you.

Thanks Roz. I am taking Meloxicam and take turmeric supplements. Not perfect, but makes things better. My daughter helped me make dinner tonight. Old injuries are hard on the body. No matter what, the body just isn't the same.

Sorry about the Crohn's and everything else. I got checked for that, but they didn't find any. I will have to look at massage therapy. Chiropractors aren't really recommended for AS though some people still use them.

@crazyhorseladycx Thanks. For the most part, I do pretty well. Today is a bad day, I thought I already had accepted it, but I am realizing I still have a little ways to go.

Part of growing old is having some body aches . However , in my opinion , if we are used to always exercising , we will not be feeling these aches .

Some aches and pains are normal. Exercise is very important.

Stiffness that lasts after rest. Schober's test, which measures flexibility in the lower back. That is a test for AS. Range of motion in neck is limited. It can be hereditary, but not always. I believe my grandmother may have had it, but never diagnosed.

So sorry to hear that you may have AS. You are pretty young for that.

I feel too young. Unfortunately, children get it too.

That's a bad thing to have. I have a couple cousins with fibro. That coupled with arthritis has got to be very hard to deal with.
