A County youth is arrested for terroristic threats even in a small town near where I live. A 17-year-old Cottonwood County male was arrested Monday evening by Fairmont officers for making terroristic threats in Fairmont. Fairmont Police were notified Saturday morning of the terroristic threats made by the youth through Yik Yak, a social media app. Requests for assistance were immediately submitted to owners of Yik Yak. According to a press release from the Fairmont Police Department, the threat was believed to have been made from Cottonwood County, but the individual has ties to the Fairmont area, which caused concern in that community. Fairmont Police are continuing to work with area school systems regarding the matter.

It seems to me that these kids could also be doing this as a sick joke. Not that that's okay, it's not. And the police did the right thing. All these threats need to be investigated.

This was a teen thinking he was doing a joke on people but he will find out he can be prosecuted as an adult.

@Marcyaz I figured as much with this kid. See, they have no idea how serious they take these threats these days.

@inertia4 This boy it looks like will be treated as a juvie instead of an adult which I really think is wrong as this boy was in trouble before adn if he gets off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist this will happen again.

Is this serious or is it a prank made by students? 17 years old seems very young.

@Marcyaz Youngsters do stupid things, they should remember the old novel "Peter and the wolf". They can regret in future.

I believe it, small town parents are also losing control over their kids and it isn't right. It also makes those who discipline our kids harder because of peer pressure.

This reminds me of the days right after NC schools were desegregated by the courts and forced busing became the norm. It seemed like there were bomb threats and rumors of attacks on the schools by racists groups from both sides, the Klan and the Black Panthers, all the time. Now, instead of notes or phone calls, these threats show up on social media.

He has just about ruined his life now as he could go to prison since here at 17 he can be tried as an adult.
