It's Weird and I Like It

When I was a kid, my sisters and I grew up eating some different kinds of things. Didn't realize it of course til you go to school or somebody else's house and you get laughed at or "eeww"ed at. My mom's version of sloppy joes was leftover chili with oatmeal thrown in to thicken it. Mom and Dad would buy potato chips but never dip. We used ketchup. Kids at school thought it was nasty. Whatever. I loved my cottage cheese and I started to us that as a chip dip. I still will, if I have both in the house. Is it odd? Maybe. But, when I lived in Arkansas. I knew people that put mayonnaise on hot dogs and polish sausages. That was new to me. Do you eat foods people think are odd? What are they?

Cottage cheese doesn't last very long in this house. I used to buy these 3 pound containers of it at Costco and it only lasted a few meals.

I would try that. My aunt and grandma had a special way of making tuna salad. Put whatever leftovers in the fridge in with a can of tuna and some mayo. My mom always said that was the way they stretched it out. Not bad, but I wouldn't want to make mine that way.

We would make dip out of cottage cheese, rather than sour cream. We would beat it with a mixer and stir in a dip mix. I do not think I eat anything really weird.I like mayo on lots of things. I knew of people who would put popcorn on their chili to stretch it.

That sounds really good! I will have to try doing that. Never heard of popcorn on chili. My husband likes potato in chili though.

That is the way it should be. I eat a lot of things no one else in the house will eat. Their loss.

Here in the Philippines we have lots of foods considered odd or yucky by others . Number 1 , we have the balut - a duck egg with a developing ducking inside . And there are those street foods , like grilled intestines of the chicken and a lot more .

Probably. We ate to survive when my daughter was young. We ate pilaf made from wheat rather than rice. For a long time she thought we'd made up the word hummus. Supper leftovers often were scrambled in the next morning's eggs. Yes, I like mayo on hot dogs.

I had never heard of mayo on hotdogs before. It's ketchup, mustard, or relish here. Maybe chili if you want a chili dog.

@Gwensmom Mostly hot dogs go to our dogs for treats now a days. We do buy franks from the butcher but those are not the usual hot dogs.
