Donating without publicity

People donate for a good cause. Their gesture is publicized. They get felicitated and awarded. Perhaps they also cherish a desire to have name and fame. But those who donate silently, without the public knowing about their good gesture, are real philanthropists. They do not care about any award or fame. They only care about the good of people in need of help.

you're right goodness/kindness doesn't count that way and for me, I feel better to stay quiet and I get a big genuine smile on my face as they recognize and appreciate my good deeds without me telling them that I was the one who did it.
