What happens when you take your dog to the vet?

Yesterday was Dakota’s 3 month visit to the vet to get his quartile shot for heart worm and his new 3 month pill for fleas and ticks. Dakota loves to go to the vet because he can meet new friends. Yesterday he saw his friend Kayla, meet a new bichon named Brownie, played with a few cats, and found 2 new friends who were Dioxins. He was so happy to be there until it was his turn. The vet called us and he took one look at the vet and hid under the bench. He refused to move or even walk in. Everyone was laughing so hard at his reaction because he actually started to whine and cry. It was so funny. This is a brand new reaction for Dakota now. It happened a few months back when he got sick and needed to visit the vet. They gave him a shot that made him yelp and cry for a long time. Since this time when he sees the vet who gave him the shot he refuses to move or go inside. After the vet weighed him he climbed up on my shoulder and started to tremble and shake. He got his shot and didn’t cry or yelp this time. But he sure doesn’t like seeing this vet anymore. The vet he sees is so nice and kind and before Dakota loved him. But after that last shot he gave him Dakota doesn’t want anything to do with him anymore. How do your dogs or cats react when you take them to the vet? Image source - personal image

When Ruby goes to the vet she puts her front paws up on the receipt desk and kisses all the ladies! She's find until we go into the exam room, then she gets very quiet until the vet comes in then its all kisses.

That's so cute. Dakota loved the vet until he got sick a few months back. This was the first time he ever got sick. After this he now sees the one vet who gave him his shot and he gets scared. Looks like the shot he had when he was sick really hurt and now he doesn't like to see this one vet anymore. But he loves to go there to meet new friends and play with them.

@AbbyGreenhill Hope so he will be 2 years in January. But it's still funny to see him there. He is so cute and makes everyone laugh so hard. Especially his hiding act yesterday everyone was laughing including the vet.

My daughter has three cats. She took a course a few years ago so she gives them their shots. They all go together and I think that helps.

I have basically only had 1 cat at a time and normally he hates to go in his carrier to the vet. Screams all the way. Normally when we get inside he is nervous and not too happy. Once he is out he is fine and no big deal. He likes the vet but not going there or being in his carrier for the car.

Yes, Most of my dogs( I have had 7in my lifetime thus far) have always had an unreasonable fear of going to the vet. and often the biggest ones are the most chicken. Most of my cats ( I have 18) do not have a problem but a few would rather not be there.

Hehe this is funny. My big dogs love the vet and I have never had an issue on this one. At times they don't like to wait their turn they just want to go in. The new little bichon loves the vet but the last time was some thing new. He saw the vet and froze. It was funny his reaction to the visit.

Hope one day you'll find the time for a pet. They do enrich your life so much. I'm not sure what I would do without mine. It is basically the first time I can really have a pet and enjoy it. I had a few when I worked and traveled but it wasn't the same as now.

It has been a long time since we visited the vet. I keep all the prescribed vitamins, anti flea shampoo and medicines from the vet. Thank God my dog is very active and healthy.

Poor baby. Folks shouldn't laugh at a dog like that. My dogs both are deeply frightened when they go to the Vets. They must smell all kinds of disturbing things that I can't detect.

@poehere I laughed at a dog when I was a kid. He hid under a bed and would not come out until I crawled under there and hugged him. Fur persons have feelings too.

No it is funny. I am even laughing at him. I think why others were laughing too was the fact before we went in he was so friendly and playful and loved it there. Then he knew it was his turn and he ran under the bench to hide. It was totally funny and I did have to laugh at him.

I took my dog to the vet today. He is not ill, but it was time for his annual exam and shots. He likes to meet the other dogs in the waiting room. He is not afraid of the consultation room, but he doesn't like it when the vet touches his teeth.

How funny. I don't think any dog likes this. I noticed it when the vet looks at all of my dogs teeth they want to pull away and turn their head.

My cat was never one to like the vet. As a matter of fact none of my cats ever liked to go to the vet. But my dogs have always loved to go.
