My daughter's exam

India
October 20, 2015 11:57pm CST
My daughter's 1st semester exam scheduled next week, and I am feeling drained out. I feel more exhaust and tired than my daughter to prepare her for exam. Lots of projects, assignments, oral, open book test, revision test and then main exam. I don't think I have don all these preparation when I was studying. I feel very sorry for her she has lots of burden on her small brain. Is it really needed to go through this lot of studies and burdens at this age for our kids?

@utkarshan,You have not mentioned your daughter's age.I agree with you that students these days are heavily burdened with their studies. So much so that they even don't have time to play which is so essential for their all round development.

she is 7 years, studying in 2nd standard. Compare to my times I feel they have much more studies to do.

@utkarshan28 She's too young to carry so heavy a burden.Children in her age group these days never get time to play and make marry which is as essential as studies to develop their personality.I understand.

Yes, you are very right that burden of studies is too much on young kids, which was not when you were studying. Asking a seven year old child to do projects, assignments, oral tests, open book tests and regular exams etc. is too much. It could lead to counter-productivity. Instead of taking interest in studies a young kid may feel dejected or may even lose interest in studies. Actually, it is the parents who do the projects and some assignments, so you should think that it is your exams also. . I think you do not have any option, on the other hand you need to help your daughter in her projects and assignments etc. and just guide her that these are part of studies. If you tell her that during your time, you had not much syllabus to study/ or there were less such activities, she may take it otherwise and may think - "why she is being forced to do so much things". Take it on your stride, it is not easy to be a parent and to bring up young kids.

@utkarshan28 - Yes, you are right. Try to raise the issue in Parents Teaching meeting, which is held in school.

All parents are facing same problem. 95% parents agree they only prepare projects needed by school. Kids just follow their instructions and present it in school

I've decided as we age our children are required more since society sees that things are changing and want to be sure the students learn more than we had too..new and different things to test us on and push the kids into different career choices.

I agree that studies nowadays are getting more and more hectic which eventually increases the burden on kids but I guess owing to the growing competition it is the need of the hour that children learn how to manage their work in time.

She's lucky she has you for a mom. I never did that to my kids coz I want them to be independent and so far so good. They have learned through their own ways.

My daughter is only 7 years now, by the time she is 10 years, I would like if she does all this independently on her own.

It seems someone thinks so or you wouldn't be helping your daughter.

It is too much stress for young minds. I was the same when I was studying.

Matter of School bag or syllabus there is extra burden , that's the way each parent thinks. But when generation changes children grasp their knowledge of all fields early compare to their parents.
