Interlinking of rivers in India

Shri Atal Bihariji was the first to endorse the concept of rivers interlinkage in India. Now such an eminent personality must have given it a serious thought before saying something like this. It means that it can be done. Then why do we have annual floods in Bihar, Orissa, Assam etc and severe draught in Maharashtra, Andhra etc. By interlinking perennial rivers of the North with the seasonal rivers of the South we can prevent floods, save human life, prevent farmer suicide and can give overall fillip to our crop production. Let the Govt. of the day whether State or Central come together and forge an action plan on these lines. When I posed this question to one of our renowned ISRO sceintist ie Shri Navalgund, he said that due to uneven terrain this is only possible for a small area. So atleast we can begin locally and then go national.

The attempt has already been made in Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh , and in Karnataka too they are planning on linking rivers..It is a good idea but it has to be carefully planned so that there is equal distribution of water to all areas..
